2007 Heisman Trophy Discussion

Cornerback6

Optimism Lover
I realize that there are already some articles on the 2007 Heisman Trophy, so I figured we might as well have a thread for it alone.

Personally, I think if Pitt goes, Beanie is a top 15 contender. Regardless of his lack of carries this year, I think anyone with half a brain cell knows his potential.

Feel free to comment on other early faves or what have you.

Just a few obvious will/would be contenders (regardless of potential draft entries - starred):

Darren McFadden
Brian Brohm*
Steve Slaton
Pat White
JaMarcus Russell*
Dwayne Jarrett*
Calvin Johnson*
Mike Hart
Chris Wells
Marshawn Lynch
Ted Ginn Jr.*
Sidney Rice
Colt McCoy
Colt Brennan
DaSean Jackson

Just curious, why do you think that Wells can be a Heisman candidate but not Pittman. Apparently you hold Pitt in low esteem as a RB.
I feel he could be, especially with a new QB next year. Beanie will not supplant Pitt as the n01 back next year.

I doubt it's b/c he holds Pittman in low esteem, as you say. Rather, I'd imagine it's b/c if Pittman goes to the NFL Beanie doesn't have to split carries with Pittman whereas if Pittman stays, he and Beanie split carries.

can't speak for conerback6. but my feelings are this. beanie's running style has an "ooo aaaa" appeal to it that the media has a tendancy to cling to. pittman is more of a blue collar guy that has a tendancy to be seen as an intergral part of a whole rather than the guy who makes an offense what it is.

the difference imo is what i think the announcers would say if they were to run the exact same 50 yrd td run.

pitt: wow what a great run, take a look at how good the blocking is at the point of attack.
beanie: what a read by beanie, what an amazing run.

EXACTLY. If Pitt stays, they're splitting carries and no way does either of them go to NYC splitting carries. This is the key. I think both are phenomenal talents, but Beanie's upside is obviously a sky's the limit sort of thing. Pittman I think has hit his ceiling...just my humble opinion. Someone hit is right also, about the OOH AHH factor that Beanie has that Pittman perhaps doesn't.
