2007 Fall Practice Tidbits

"You only get an opportunity like that once," said senior offensive tackle Kirk Barton. "That's like [model] Brooke Burke wanting to go on a date with you, and you fall on your face and break your arm. You don't get that chance again. It's over and you look like an idiot."

Barton sure is full of them

Tis the season.

Can we keep this on topic, please?

Agree, but first let's change the thread title to "Fall Brooke Burke Photo Thread"

Notebook: Heat can't be a hot topic
Jenkins says players mustn't let conditions affect their practices
Wednesday, August 8, 2007 3:40 AM
By Tim May

The Columbus Dispatch

Definition of a sweat box: temperatures in the mid-90s and high humidity; also, the conditions in which Ohio State will practice this week.
The Buckeyes would prefer something much cooler and drier for the first week of preseason camp, but "we have no choice," cornerback Malcolm Jenkins said.
What the players can't let the sweat do, he said, is alter their intensity with only three weeks to prepare for the opener.

OHIO STATE FOOTBALL

Coach is happy with the recent trend, but says with 100 players, issues will always pop up.

By Doug Harris
Staff Writer

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State has dramatically reduced its off-field problems in the past two years, but coach Jim Tressel isn't ready to say he's changed the culture surrounding the football program.
Eight players were either arrested or issued citations in 2004 and '05, but only one since then: tackle Alex Boone, who had a DUI last year.
"We're a bump in the road away from having a problem," Tressel said. "Kids are kids. And percentages tell you that if there are 100 of them (on the roster), along the way you're going to have some issues.

Football
Buckeyes Searching for the Right Mix in Fall Camp
By John Porentas
Whether your writing a novel or making soup, the one thing that's for sure is that the final product will be determined by how you blend the parts.
Blending and evaluating the parts is what is going on in OSU fall camp right now. With a team that was hit heavily by graduation Jim Tressel and his coaching staff are trying to figure out which parts are the best ones and how they might fit together to make a good football team.
"We know there are some good characters (players) in this novel and we know they have a lot of ability. Whether the writers (coaches) have good ability, we'll figure that out," Tressel said as drills began on Monday.

That's a great way to handle that question. So many coaches fall prey to the temptation to pat themselves on the back. JT's even-keel temperament and humility might make for uninteresting interviews at times, but those interviews don't come back to bite him either.
