2007 Fall Practice Tidbits

I wish he would've taken more pics of the freshmen. I only saw Dane, Brian Rolle, and Taurian. Still great to see the bucks in uniform again.

I notice Blankenship as well.

In Jardy's pics on Scout, Blankenship loos bigger than I expected him to. Gibson looks beastly - Its amazing that he and Johnson are not even in the two-deep (in a good way)... I'm hard-pressed to remember a team as deep in LB's as the Bucks appear to be

Maybe not this year, but next year they both could very easily be starting...

Report from Day 1 (Rivals$)

OL is in much better shape, spending a lot of time at the salad bar. The Freshmen have been very impressive. Brandon Saine is the fastest player on the team it looks like. Tressel said he runs with the "Lions" group becuase he is bigger, but is actually faster than the "Cheetahs". Cameron Heyward is also quick, and although it is not said in this article buthas been elsewhere, I would expect Cam to end up being a DE during his stint in Columbus.

It was REALLY boring actually and photogs were limited to the EZ. We did a lot of talking as Jim has got some possible disc issue in his neck (MRI scheduled today)...he was in a lot of pain yesterday. I know exactly what he's going thru as I had neck surgery (fusion of C-5 and C-6) in 2001. Please send some positive vibes his way and hope it's nothing serious.

Regarding photos from yesterday I just don't feel like going thru them all...waste of time. Here are just a few (link)

Bob Hunter commentary: Fifteen minutes offers mere glimpse into future

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Now that the Ohio State football team is back at work, experience tells me that at least a few of my friends will ask if I've been to practice.

My response is usually a hesitant nod and a cryptic look, designed in part to lead to the inevitable question.
How do they look?

Notebook: Buckeyes freshmen hit ground running after summer school

Tuesday, August 7, 2007 3:29 AM

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

All summer, players kept telling Ohio State coach Jim Tressel, "Wait until you see these freshmen," and yesterday, the freshmen did not disappoint.
Tressel said the incoming class was impressive both in how it looked and how it performed in running tests on the first day of practice.
He singled out receivers Dane Sanzenbacher and Taurian Washington, running back Brandon Saine and defensive lineman Cameron Heyward before concluding, "You could go right down that group, they were kind of what the older kids said they would be. They're a pretty impressive group."

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel is as curious as any observer about how his team will shape up.

The 2007 Ohio State football team took the practice field for the first time yesterday, shrouded by oppressive heat and humidity and a cloud of mystery.
Coach Jim Tressel and his assistants can do little about the weather. But that mystery cloud? Tressel expects a little clearing each day headed toward the season opener Sept. 1 against Youngstown State.
A team that lost seven starters, including Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Troy Smith, from its high-powered offense and five starters from its defense is like a promising mystery novel.

Quick tailback from Piqua shows promise during conditioning; starting safety Russell returns from injury.

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State coach Jim Tressel won't know for perhaps another three weeks whether any true freshmen will play much this season, but he learned during the team's conditioning test Monday morning that at least a few are swift enough.
The Buckeyes opened preseason practice by running 20 gassers of about 50 yards in Ohio Stadium. Each position group was required to complete them in a specified time.

OSU FOOTBALL
Ohio State's football team looks to move past crushing defeat

Monday, August 06, 2007 Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- Ohio State's football players sound eager for a healthy dose of "You stink."
To hear the Buckeyes talk as they reported for the start of preseason camp on Sunday, anything would be easier than all the praise they soaked up before their undefeated season crashed down on them in last season's national championship loss to Florida.
"It's harder to handle success than it is to handle failure," junior cornerback Malcolm Jenkins said soon after checking into the University Plaza Hotel, home to the players for the next several weeks. "I think a lot of people last year were thinking, 'We're at the top of the mountain already, it's a given,' but Florida came in and wanted to get to the same spot we were."
