I'd just like to see some more tackles for loss. I think if he works on his ability to get into the backfield consistently and make plays there, he'll become great.

The first play in this video...

It's the same every year. We are all geeked up for the season and that skews our memories.

Freeman. Solid player, but hasn't put it all together for entire season. He played well in the NC game...what else?

Little Animal. More than solid, is well coached, but he still hasn't wowed me yet. But that's just my opinion. (I know he didn't play the same position as JL, but Hawk had that wow factor)

Larry Grant. Hasn't started much until now!

Yet these guys are better than the 05 group.

Show me where anyone has said Laurinaitis, Freeman, and Grant are better than Hawk, Carpenter, and Schlegel....

He should be doing that a few times every game though. He has the potential, he just needs to do it more consistently to be among the elite. He's great dropping back and reading plays, he just needs to work on shedding blockers and becoming more of a playmaker in the backfield.

You could make the same video of OSU in the National Championship Game. OSU should be the last team that should use the song had a bad day in my opinion.

I seriously doubt that we can accuse jeffseemann (the person who edited the video) of hypocrisy here. He posted that video on YouTube on October 3rd of last year. It's not likely that his crystal ball showed the Buckeyes not showing up in Glendale.

From a playmaking standpoint his forte seemed to be dropping back into coverage, and picking off passes.

Obviously, I could be proven wrong in the next several weeks, but I think it's a close comparison and I'm giving the nod to this year's group.

'05 - One great player (WLB), one very good, if somewhat one dimensional, player (SLB), one solid player (MLB)

'07 - One great player (MLB) and two better than solid players (SLB and WLB)

Also, Freeman and Grant have the chance to improve, Carp and Schleg are done. This group, especially if you factor in the depth, as has been said several times, can be special even by Buckeye standards.

I'm willing to say that this group will be better than Hawk & Co. JL is/will be close to AJ. Freeman and Grant are more athletic than Schlegs and Carp. And as bkb said, the depth is better this year.

Uhhh maybe you should go back and read through the thread.

Uhhh maybe you should try using the search function.

Sound familiar. :rofl::roll1::roll1:

I mentioned earlier either here or in Grant's thread that this year's trio could very well rival Hawk, Carpenter, and Schlegal...

You love linebackers!

By the way, your opinion on Grant is premature. Who knows, he might not even be starting at some point this season. I hope Grant blows up, but let's see what happens.

i think he is still a little afraid of the knee. as soon as he gets his confidence back and stops playing with it in the back of his mind he'll be fine.

Little Animal. More than solid, is well coached, but he still hasn't wowed me yet. But that's just my opinion. (I know he didn't play the same position as JL, but Hawk had that wow factor)

nope. he's in all the right places at all the right times. but hasn't wow'd me yet either. which of course should be taken with a cup o salt considering he was a sophmore :p.

Larry Grant. Hasn't started much until now!

hasn't started, but has played considerably. hopefully he has fully adjusted to this level of play as he certainly wasn't ready last season. he's earned the starting spot and looked solid in the spring game so im confident in his ability.

I'm amazed at the number of posters who haven't been wowed by Lauranaitis, yet he won the Nagurski Trophy and almost the Butkus as a sophomore!

***disclaimer*** i grade the lb position VERY harsh.

i was more than a little surprised that he was a butkus finalist. then i rememberd awards are popularity contests. jl shouldn't have been a butkus finalist. im sure ill get dinged for that, but its the truth. i see jl as being a guy who plays his position very well. but he doesn't define the position with his play, yet. thats the way butkus played. thats the way guys like hawk, and the big kat, and speils played. if i wanted to teach a kid who had never seen football before how to play olb, id pull out a tape of aj hawk and tell him to watch it until he had every play memorized. thats what the butkus is to me. its not a guy who plays his role well. its a guy who defines the position with his play.

jl simply put isn't to that point yet. look out when he gets there though.

UF fans did make one(the one who knows how to operate a 'puter...forget his name). Part of being a fan in the internet age I guess.

I'm trying hard in my old age to remind myself not to take glee in other fans misery or wish them ill (except tsun and NoD fans, they can blow me)...bad karma and all but its hard not to sometimes.

I wouldn't be too troubled if some crazed Contractor lined up a few Miami, Fla fans and beat them with a ball peen hammer.
