2007 Cavs Free Agent/Trade Rumors

IMO Lebron wouldn't be building a $20+ million house in Bath if was was planning on leaving. If he left he would be about as welcome in Cleveland as Art Model. The Cavs can offer him more money and years than anyone else so he would basically have to take less to play elsewhere. How is Kobe enjoying being in a major market?
This team is young and made it to the Finals this year. They will do nothing but get better over the next 3-4 years. I would hate to see them give up one of their good young players for anything less than a sure thing. If I were the GM I would have to have a great trade brought to me if I'm going to pull the trigger. Along the lines of Gooden and Varejao for Tony Battie.

You could be right, and I hope you are. I just believe without some kind of change to the roster and/or a different philosophy on offense, we will never be able to beat an elite team from the West.

i think you need to see 4 things for the cavs to be an upper echelon team.

1. an offensive minded assistant to get some sort of consistent scheme implemented.

2. a true pg that can get the ball up the court and potentially make an 18 ft jumper if left open

3. lebron to develop a consistent jumper of his own as well as a few low post moves

4. a big man that has a little bit of athelticism to do some nasty grunt work down low (a dalembert type backup for Z).

all 4 can be accomplished in the offseason, especially if cleveland buys a pick from the Suns as rumored. Cleveland can use the MLE to get a pg in here, and use the pick to get a young big man.

Defensively I think the Cavs can play with anyone. More time in the current system will only make them better. I agree that they need to get an offensive coordinator this off season and force Brown to turn the offense over to him. Maybe work that into an extension. The Cavs biggest problem right now is that the only offense that works against a team that packs the lane and dares you to make open shots is that you have to make the open shots and the Cavs haven't been able to do that. That's one reason I would like to see them sign Humphrey out of Florida if he doesn't get drafted and the same for Ron Lewis. Give me some young shooters throw them against a wall and see what sticks.

Conley on this team would be a dream. Would also love to have a shooter like Redd, still pisses me off that we did not get him as a FA and ended up with Hughes.

To borrow a comparison from Conley himself - look what Tony Parker was able to do for himself and the Spurs? That would be a great pickup, but it wouldn't be much help without a real shooter. I'd obviously love to get Redd for that role, but what will make Redd change his mind about being the #1 option?

I hope you're right... it's not unheard of for athletes to set up a permanent residence in their home state and still play in other cities.

Tony Battie? Is that an even trade?

No, but it was great for the Cavs when they pulled it off a few years ago. Maybe this time we can give Varejao and Gooden back to Orlando for Dwight Howard. That's about as big of a steal as it was for the Cavs.

Ah, forgive me for being slow - I'd probably support the Howard trade you've proposed

I really think just getting that offensive assistant would be the biggest move we can make. Maybe make a move to try and get a high pick in one of the next two drafts(not this years obviously). Use our midlevel exemption wisely. Preferably a good shooter. I'd like to see Damon Jones leave, and I'm indifferent to Eric Snow and Donyell Marshall. Marshall is great when he's shooting well, but he's worthless when he isn't Damon Jones is worthless 100% of the time. Eric Snow used to be able to provide some steadiness and leadership, but he's just getting so old that I can't see him contributing much for an entire season. I'm really hoping Humprey(I think that's his name) from Florida goes undrafted and we can get him as a FA.

Imo Donyell Marshall is worthless because he shot the ball well once all year and that was the closeout game against NJ.

He had a few good months during the season, but you're right, he's mostly worthless, but unless we get a good shooter in FA, it would probably be in our best interests to keep him around and pray he works hard in the offseason and is a consistent shooting threat off the bench.

Unless we are going to get a player like Bibby, Barbosa, Kidd, etc. I say sit on our team that we have right now...

I would love to pick up Steve Blake, as he could be the backup to Hughes at the PG, and we could also see Boobie there some...I am just not sure if Boobie will develop into a pg, or play more in the Ben Gordan type 2g role...

After that I would like to see Brown improve and allow his minutes to increase...That would give us a backcourt rotation of LBJ, Boobie, Hughes, Sasha, Brown, and Blake...That gives us 6 guys that can all defend, are athletic, a couple very good shooters, and the other guys are ones you can't just leave out there like teams do with Snow...As we saw in the playoffs when Sasha and Boobie were out there, it opened the court tremendously for LBJ...

Unless we can get a draft pick and pick up another guard or can get one of the guys I mentioned above, I am fine with that lineup...If Snow, Jones, Newble want to come back and man the end of the bench that is fine with me, as they all seemed to embrace their role, and not all 12 guys that dress can see the floor and you need those guys that will keep the spirit up, and watch and recognize things out on the floor much like coaches should do...

As for the front court, I like the rotation we have, but would still like one more guy that could allow us to cut Donyell...He was good here, but he is passed his time...I hope that we can resign Wild Thing, and IMO don't trade Drew unless we can get one of the guys I mentioned above...

I caught myself at times saying get the ball to Drew during the playoffs, when he was hot, and he really stepped his D up...He is still young and with him and Andy we have a nice offensive rebounding tandem, and the only team that was able to slow them down was the Spurs, but we still got our fair share...My only thing is with Z, and he ain't going anywhere, but he is getting wear on the tires, and it is time to try and look for a replacement...

Also as Hawg has said, I would love to see guys like Humprey and Lewis get a shot here if they go undrafted...Another guy is Deshaun Wood...

Also if we could get a draft pick I would love to get Sessions the PG out of Nevada late in teh first...He is going to be a good one...

I just heard we almost have a done deal with Sacramento for Bibby

They get Eric Snow, Damon Jones, Pollard and Hughes... maybe Marshall too...

Really... honest...

I'd actually rather bring in a younger PG than Bibby if we were to try and get one this offseason. Someone like Calderon or Rodriguez would add more IMO. We already have one overpriced vet in big Z, I don't really want another one in Bibby.

BINGO!!!

I know I read something during the Detroit series about Toronto being interested in Sasha and the rumored deal was Calderon for Pavlovic. (I have not been able to find the original article). But Toronto is looking for a SF and with TJ Ford as their starter it just seems like a logical trade.

The more I read about Bibby the more I don't want him. He would just seem like another Larry Hughes type player.

But like others have said we MUST resign Varejao and Pavlovic, if nothing else than to be able to trade them as they are our most desirable players in a trade (besides LeBron).
