What kind of numbers will Troy and Ted need to post in order to get some serious Heisman consideration?
Only two wide receivers - Tim Brown (1987) and Desmond Howard (1991) - have ever won the Heisman. Despite having a Hall of Fame career in the NFL, Brown was one of the least-deserving Heisman winners - his 1987 stats are as follows: 34 receptions for 846 yards and 4 TD's; 144 yards rushing and 1 TD; 401 yards in punt returns and 3 TD's; and 456 yards in kick-off returns and 0 TD's; in total, that's 1,847 all purpose yards and only 8 TD's for an 8-4 Notre Dame team.
Howard posted far better numbers during his Heisman year - 61 receptions for 950 yards and 19 TD's, 165 yards rushing and 2 TD's, 373 yards on kick-off returns (27.5 avg) with 1 TD, and 261 yards on punt returns (14.1 avg) and 1 TD; grand total is 1,749 total yards and 23 total TD's.
The only "dual threat" quarterback to win the Heisman in recent years was Nebraska's Eric Crouch in 2001 (another highly undeserving candidate, IMO). That season, Crouch threw for 1,510 yards and 7 TD's, while rushing for 1,115 yards and 18 TD's.
Given the above history, what do Troy and Ted need to accomplish this season to be legitimate candidates?
