2006 Heisman Discussion (merged all)

Time for Troy to pack it in. I was informed by a notre shame grad tonight that Brady deserves the Heisman as he will be the better pro and will be the number one pick in the draft. It was a good run while it lasted Troy!

I tell you what, if Pat White can bring West Virginia all the way back in this game against Louisville, he needs to be in the conversation....

But as it stands right now (and as it will stand tomorrow) the Heisman is Troy's to lose....

Have you people forgotten that the mighty Quinn almost beat USC last season, and led the Fighting Irish to stirring comeback victories against national powers like Michigan State and UCLA? What more does a guy have to do? By the way, Colt Brennan is pretty good. And, if that Smith guy from Ohio State could find a way to play four quarters and keep it exciting for the media, he might have a chance. :wink2:

HEISMAN WATCH

1. Troy Smith, quarterback, Ohio State. His brilliant 21-yard touchdown run against Minnesota last week serves as a nice reminder why Smith is entrenched as the top candidate.
2006 statistics G Cmp.-Att. Yds TDs Int
9 145-214 1,898 22 2
2. Brady Quinn, quarterback, Notre Dame. Definitely heating up, with 15 touchdown passes in his past five games. Quinn has passed for at least 295 yards in four of those contests.
2006 statistics G Cmp.-Att. Yds TDs Int
8 193-303 2,233 21 4
3. Colt Brennan, quarterback, Hawaii. He is putting up numbers that are impossible to ignore, and it can't all be attributed to coach June Jones' pass-happy system.
2006 statistics G Cmp.-Att. Yds TDs Int
8 230-311 2,934 33 5
4. Marshawn Lynch, running back, Cal. The junior goes up against UCLA's best-in-the-league rushing defense, but even if the Bruins' stop him there, Lynch can make something happen in the passing game.
2006 statistics G Att. Yds TDs YPG
8 132 907 8 113.4
5. Steve Slaton, running back, West Virginia. Gained 156 yards rushing against Louisville on Thursday night, but two fumbles in loss will hurt his chances.
2006 statistics G Att. Yds TDs YPG
8 169 1,215 10 151.9

THAT'S right, crap I keep confusing Brady Quinn with a saint, last I heard Brady cured cancer. *sighs* I really should read more stuff about football. :)

It's Smith's to loose. The way he plays, I just don't see him doing it. He is his best during big games. (And I know some people who would love to be Troy Smith on his bad game days.)

I just thought about this. Not only does Troy always knock off the big opponent...but does anyone realize that maybe part of the reason why we always say that Troy plays best in big games is because he actually gets to play 4 quarters and put together a 60 minute magic act as opposed to 30. It just hit me that no wonder he always has insane stats against scUM...he actually plays the entire game. This year, I'd like to see him come out in the 3rd because the game is out of reach...although I realize that's pretty much wishful thinking. :)

Well... Troy played all 4 quarters today, and it wasn't good for him.

This sucks. Smith will have to beat Michigan, and beat them convincingly, to win the Heisman now.

Quinn's stock rose about 4 million points today, and Smith's dropped about 2 million. We all know Smith is the better player, but he sure didn't look like it today....

I disagree 100%. Quinn MUST beat USC convincingly to even have a chance regardless of what Smith does against Michigan. Now if Troy throws 4 picks against Michigan, that is a different story.

I think you are 100% right outside of Smith dropping alot, today didnt help, but as long as we beat scUM, Smith will win it.

I think you forgot how big of a media darling Quinn & Notre Dame are...

Obviously we all think/know Troy is 10x better than Brady. But unfortunately, the voters dont watch all the games and take a hard look at statistics. Something Brady is definately padding as of late.

I didn't forget it one bit...I just know what Troy has done in big games thus far and what Quinn has done thus far in the same scenarios. late charges in the Heisman rarely succeed...its the steady performer.

I think you are worrying too much and listening to a media boost up interest in a nearly done-deal race.

Quinnn deffinatly gained more votes today. Well I think it was less of him gaining votes, more of Troy giving some votes away(wasn't really his fault, offense wasn't on the same page, but the heisman voters don't give a shit about that).

Smith has gotten all of the 1st place votes in the ESPN poll, lets see how many votes are taken away. Hopefuly not that much. Smith needs to rebound with a good preformance against NW.

Isn't the media that decieds this thing. I absolutetly believe in the Brady Quinn hype machine. You watch what happens for instance on ESPN's heisman watch next week it will all the sudden be spit 10-5. Today wasn't a steady performance at all. It was a caretaker performance. Caretaker performances don't win Hiesmans(even while they still win games). He can't have 2 more games like this while Brady throws another 10-15 TDs. Can't happen.
