I like your assessment. It's fair. Like you say, there will be some growing pains on the defensive side. It's really hard to know whether we have an upgrade or not on the until we've played 2-3 games.

The key comes down to the D-line. Are they effectively eating blockers and freeing up the LB's? It's going to be great watching who steps up and how the defensive team gels together. We have the talent, so it's just a matter of time.

Maybe until that time, we'll be playing basketball on turf. In a way, that would be the most fun, watching Troy and Co. light up the field like a pinball machine. Really, our offense may be scary like the Rams offense from a few years ago. We have frightening potential at every spot.

Antonio Smith

I don't think anyone(Not even me) thought this kid would be starting D. Let alone starting at CB, after being at Safety the last 4 years(With a redshirt).

If I had to chose before spring practice, which Beechcroft alum would have been starting between Smith and Welch. I would have chose Welch.

I predicted he would start! I wish i could prove it... you'll just have to take my word

Ever since around the Iowa game I've been telling people in my dorm, "Watch for this guy Antonio Smith... He's gonna do good for us next year."

I think he'll do very good. If you watch the game tapes of last season, Smith is the first one to the ball on almost every single special teams play. When the ball was kicked out of the Endzone by Huston, Smith was usually the first Buckeye on your screen. Good, hard hitter... unfortunately one of the few tackles he missed was in the Texas game that would have netted a saftey (another "what if" moment of that game). aw well, looking forward to a surprisingly good defense.

Thought it was kind of fun to go back and read through this thread, now that the regular season is over. Anyone want to re-do their picks? Those of you who jumped on the Robiskie and Antonio Smith bandwagons must feel pretty good. Can't remember anyone selecting Pettrey. Gholston was a solid selection, and Hartline's development deserves mention. Who thought Laurinaitis would have ended up as one of the top LB's in the NATION, not just the team? Curtis Terry ending up a starter? There are just a lot of feel-good stories from this team.
