2006 Breakout Buckeyes
The rules:
Name somebody from each aspect of the game (offense, defense, and special teams) who you think will have a breakout season next year. Incoming freshmen are fair game. If you name a player that your senile grandmother would know about, then that player cannot be a breakout player and I will find you and kick you in the junk. Also, only name one player in each category. No ties. People think soccer is lame because of ties - ties are lame here too. Grow a set, and pick just one.
My picks:
Offense: Albert Dukes. How do you try to replace Santonio Holmes? With his clone. The offense already has plenty of star power. Dukes is like Holmes, but he is not Holmes yet - and honestly, they really don't need him to be, though it certainly wouldn't hurt. They just need him to be a solid contributor at the WR postion.
Defense: Mike D'Andrea. I think he's poised to have one of them senior seasons - kinda like Jonathan Wells or Drew Carter (hopefully sans injury though.) Like those two players, D'Andrea has all the physical tools - he just needs to put it all together and do it during the complete season. He will be the most crucial X-factor in next season's defense - he'll literally be at the center of the defense, and he has some big shoes to fill at the LB position. Also, as a fifth-year senior, his leadership and relative experience will be crucial on such a young defense.
Special Teams: Tyler Moeller. The kid has a motor that just doesn't stop, and I think he'll get to cut his teeth on kick coverage - much to the chagrin of Big Ten kick returners. I bet Bobby Boucher will be the first one down the field.
