2006 BCS, polls, Bowl Predictions and computer ratings

What I heard Herbie say is, IF Florida runs through the SEC and stands at 13 - 0, with the toughness of their schedule, they maybe should be #1 and Ohio State #2 heading in to the NC game.

Regardless, as I've said earlier, it's not about where you're ranked, what the talking heads say, etc. it's about beating Michigan State, and then moving on to the next game... Worry about the BCS when that time comes. You see what happened to Tommy Tubberville when he started worrying about the BCS too early.

What I heard him say was, IF Florida wins these three games, then "forget Ohio State", they deserve to be ranked #1. I agree with you, win out and it will take care of itself. Unless, there are other undefeated teams and they are beating better opponents.

Win out and we probably will have done enough. But our SOS will take a real knock in coming weeks. Minny, Illinois, and NW are all sitting 2-4.

If my quick calculation is right, our SOS will drop to the range of 50-70 by the time we meet TSUN. Florida may be #1 on SOS when they meet Western Carolina and still will probably not drop outside the top 10 for SOS.

We have a lot in our favor, we're #1 right now. It's hard to vote out a #1 unless they lose. Only we truly control our own destiny.

However, if Florida wins these games big, plays the toughest schedule in college football with games like tonight's in the national spotlight AND if we are taken to the limit by anyone between now and TSUN, then we are going to lose votes in addition to computer rating points and it is possible that we could slip from #1.

I know you don't think this is in the bag and I agree with you, focus on the games and win. But a lot of folks seem to think this is ours if we just win out. As good as we are, this is not in the bag like a lot of people seem to think and just winning may not be enough in the worst scenarios.

That said, I don't think Florida will win out and I think we will.

Gotta love MArk May. He loves USC this year for the same reasons we sucked in 2002. :shake:

Yeah I noticed that last week as well. lol

What about poor "unloved" USC?

Well, I want to drop this now, but they have the #2 SOS right now in the Sagarins and the teams that they have left to play have higher power ratings. So, if Florida makes it and they make it, then this could be a real bun fight.

But, let's get back to focusing on Michigan State.

:oh:

Good points... I wanted to mention, when I head Herbie it was on 1460, not ESPN. He also said then (though probably NOT on ESPN) that he did not expect that Florida would be able to run it.

Why does anybody care about #1 ranking versus #2? The only thing that matters is not finishing #3.
Because ESPN won't run 6 weeks of "Are the 2006 Buckeyes teh greatest team evar!!!11!!111!! one one one" before our bowl game if we're #2.

Living in Tallahassee, it would be nice if we went #1 wire-to-wire. The media would say that we were the first to ever do it in the BCS era. This would drive the locals down here crazy.

It would be for a laugh (for me), but not for much else.

ESPN won't do it if Ohio State runs the table & goes wire to wire at #1. Instead we'll be treated to a Christmas season hearing how West Virginia, USC or whoever else ends up at #2 is really the greatest of all time. :)
