2006-07 Big Ten Basketball Thread

boy, i really hope that the skunkbears beat msu today. our football and basketball teams would be responsible for keeping them from the football championship game and the basketball tournament, respectively. there's nothing better than dashing their high hopes.

I thought it was interesting that Courtney Sims didn't start last night. Does anybody know if Amaker had a reason for that, other than motivating him for his last home game on Saturday? I usually don't ask questions that I could google for the answer, but I don't want to go where that search would lead me.

Lunardi has 6 teams in from the big ten with Illinois and Purdue being 2 of the last four in and has Michigan in the second group of 4 being left out...

I'll buy that for now. I'd say that Purdue's first round game with Iowa is make-or-break. If they win that, and then lose to #1 tOSU, that's no shame and should get them in. If they lose to Iowa they'll probably drop out.

Illinois has to beat PSU. A first round loss to PSU would most likely knock them out. If they beat PSU and lose to Indiana, they're right on the bubble. If the Illini get past Indiana, they're solidly in.

I think Indiana is in already, and that MSU only needs to get by NW'ern.

And realistically, Iowa needs to beat Purdue and tOSU to be considered.

I agree, Unless Iowa would pull a minor upset over Purdue we are almost guaranteed to get 6 in...

Not bad for what was considered a down year...And if Iowa would of played better earlier in the season and Michigan would of ever put their talent together those two could of been in as well...I just think Michigan likes the NIT better than the tourney...

i don't care how many teams the big ten gets into the tournament. i just want to see our program and at least one other big ten program make it deep. last year we had a decent number of teams in the tournament, and we were shown to be a sham. the year before that we were considered to be a weak conference but put 3 in the elite eight, 2 in the final four, and 1 in the championship game. hardly anyone remembers how many teams from a particular conference play during the first weekend. they remember the second weekend and beyond.

Today's Big10 games:
(9) Purdue vs. (8) Arizona - Toss up
(12) Illinios vs. (5) Virginia Tech - Depends on which Illinois and which VT teams show up
(2) Wisconsin vs. (15) Texas A&M CC - Wisky should win this one fairly easily (10 points in their language)

At the very worst the Big10 should be 4-2 at the end of the 1st round and the possibility of 6-0, while slim, isn't out of the question.
