Sorry man but that is an idiotic post. So you are implying that Fox has been thrown in there at CB just because we have no one else? If so, why didn't Underwood take his job last season? If I am not mistaken didn't Tressel imply that they were considering replacing Gamble with Underwood at CB.

Fox is a blue collar type CB. He is not flashy, but is a fantastic athlete, perhaps the best on the team. He will give you a consistant game, and will be the senior leader that this defense will need this year.

When he kicks ass this year I hope that you can come back and eat your crow.

I wanna know who is gonna stop these WR'S: Ginn, Holms, Hall, Gonazales, and Childress. IMO our WR's are very underrated. They have Cincy and Marshall to gain experience. If teams double Holms they are gonna get burned by our other WR's.

Last night Ted Ginn and Devon Lyons gave us a preview of the studs coming in this year at WR. I have heard that AL Dukes is tearing it up at practice as well. WR is a position i'm not worried about.

Everybody is talking smack about our WR's but I think they are in for a big surprise.

I was on the Miami boards last night and you should have heard the Canes. They were bragging about OSU's players especially the WR's. They were all in shock at the talent OSU got. One informed Cane also enlighten them that we got Dukes and they went even more crazy!! Canes don't give out compliments very often so take that for whats that worth.

If, and that is a big if, Fox has what I see as a good season. Which would mean he can hold his own as a cover corner in the Big Ten against Big Ten recievers and not get beat on every out-route, every slant, short post, fade and button hook. If he can do that, then I will gladly eat crow, because that means we are having a good year defensively.

I do expect a good season, but not from Fox.

Fox handles his responisibility in the defense called by the coaches. Fox plays primarily because he tackles well. He does not demonstrate one on one coverage skills because he is rarely called on to that. He frequently comes up and tackles a receiver in the flat for a short gain because this is what the defense allows the opposing offense to do with low risk. He does not give up the deep ball behind him. Fox is an excellent player because he does his job on the field.

for as short as he is....i heard he can dunk and that is SERIOUS ups. hes gotta have the highest vert on the team.

after watching the big33 i think ginn might step in at WR at some point in the middle of the season. we wont need him on defense this year, and he will be bored just returning kicks and punts (because he will be kicked away from). i think putting him at WR will cause the defense to drop back deep in a zone coverage and open up the running game.

Bam Childress is very short. Dropped a couple sure catches, then made a move on Dustin Fox that Charles Woodson couldn’t cover. Up and down with Bam. But he can talk trash…lol.Lots of potential ..... needs to make the most of his chances, or he will be riding the pine. If he drops sure catches in a game ..... The turn passes to the next player...

I am rooting for Bam to step up ... but given the opportunity, he's gotta deliver.

I think the reason people sometimes view Fox as a liability is:

1. Getting burned against Illinois in '02- every great CB has that type of game where a guy torches him, and the big Illini wr's did exactly that. Luckily, we won.

2. He gives up a lot of the 5-10 yard short passes b/c he plays soft coverage. Now whether that is b/c of the defensive system OSU is playing or that he just plays soft man is up for debate. However, it is true that he rarely if ever gives up the long bomb.

3. He's white- yes it might not be a conscious judgment but the stigma is there as much as you may want to be politically correct and pretend its not. Some people, even if they might not consciously realize it, seem to assert a lower "athleticism" value to a white athlete playing a position like CB. Not saying everyone, but you'd be naive to think it doesnt play some part in some people's opinions, perhaps not overty but subconsciously.

4. He is still perceived by some as a safety filling in at CB.

With that said, I think we need a steady CB like Fox b/c that's a position where consistency is of the highest importance. A guy like Underwood might be more talented, but the rap on EJ is that he takes too many chances. Same with Gamble- got burned against Wisky, and his major weakness was biting on double moves. Fox, on the other hand, is a very smart player who is willing to give up the short pass to make sure we dont give up a back breaking long bomb, which is perfect for our defensive philosophy. Remember, we no longer play the old Pugac blitz em to death with corners in constant iso situations w/ Springs, Winfield, Plummer...Then you have crap like the "springs slips" happen and it really does break your back. Anyways, bottom line is having a senior CB with bigtime experience and talent like Fox is a big advantage for us.

OSU Rob, those reasons plus the NC State game last year with the PI's it was horrible even Tressel pulled him. I didn't mean for my comment to turn a 14 player game into a discussion on just him though. I feel he is a pretty good cb, I just don't like him as much as the rest of the board.
But with that i'm done with any 'negative' (i sitll think he is good) comments, because nobodies performance athleticly has been ripped on as much as mine was, and when your a message board junkie like myself it gets to you.

While your post was overall in support of Fox, let's make sure the record is straight. There were no "big Illini wr's" (plural) in that game, just one. And Fox was playing hurt (hip) and also let some racist smack talk get into his head. He's taken care of that. Also, it is indeed the defensive scheme that has him play off the line a little deeper than normal. Then again, it has been highly effective in that he has never given up a long TD pass, and in fact has given up few TD passes period.

Well, you're the only one on this board with negative comments about Fox, so what's with "the people say" shit? And I guarantee you Fox ain't moving. Tell you what, I have $500 that says Fox stays at corner, barring injury to any of our safeties. Put up or shut up. Your act is getting old real quick. By the way, he already has been an all-conference honorable mention as a junior (coaches) and in fact was second-team all-conference (media) as a junior...so I guess they won't be just "giving it" to him just because he's a senior, eh, Einstein?

Look Milliani, I am not going to do one of you stupid bets. It's not that important to me. Most of the time I agree with what you have to say, but not on this. I also didn't agree with playing McM over CK and I believe you did. You wanted to sit a National Champion QB in that argument, so I don't see how you can say because I want to MOVE a soft cover corner to the position he was recruited to play, and is best suited to play at Ohio State and at the pro level, that I am the the idiot.

If he is the best we have at Corner I believe he will be a liability. He is without a doubt my biggest concern on the defense this season. If he played safety I would feel much more comfortable. It is a strong personal preference and if you think otherwise, hell if the whole board thinks otherwise, good for you all. I think you are wrong.

When you have to pull a starting CB in certain games, or even think about it, then he should not be a all-big-ten CB. Did Coop ever think of pulling Shawn Springs? Nope, because that is what a Big Ten CB should look like, especially at Ohio State. When it happens in a game in two consecutive years, and you do give up short passes, because of the system or not, it is not acceptable.

My opinion, lets move on.

Heck, I would even take a William White or Ty Howard. Derek Ross wouldn't be bad, I personally don't even think Gamble was that bad, even though he didn't know what he was doing a lot of the time.

These are Big Ten CB's at a school like Ohio State! Fast, but more importantly quick, attacking intimidating, ect.
