Game Thread (2004) Game Seven: Indiana - 10/23/04 (W, 4-3/1-3)

Homeland security, as some have mentioned it the reason for the helicopter. From what I understand if anything gets to close the stadium that is not suppose to be there, it has enough punch to take care of it before it gets there.

If you head down to the stadium this week, take a close look at the roofs of St. John Arena and the Morrill Towers. That little blue tent up there isn't tailgaters. I have a few pics where I zoomed in pretty goos and my father in law took a couple really good ones. There is an insane amount of fire power up there.

I also liked the fact on Saturday that when Troy did a play-action fake, it actually looked like he was faking it instead of just lolly-gagging it! Also on most of Troy's incompletions they were in the vicinity where if our guy doesn't get it no one does. The first series when we were bombing it he had three of those incompletions and few dropped passes on him also. Overall I was fairly pleased with Troy.

Pittman on the other hand is clearly our best back. I've been one of the ones screaming for more Pittman since the UC game.

Both sides of this argument are correct, and that's all there is to it. Nobody here can say that Pittman and Smith played any better than Ross or Zwick could have against IU. Hell, look at Ross's career numbers vs. IU, compared with his overall career numbers. The offense looked good. Smith looked good to me - better than Zwick has all year. He missed some open receivers, but he also had some excellent throws that weren't caught. One other thing here, that TD toss to Ginn was NOT a bad throw. Several people here have said that could have/should have been a pick...not so. Ginn misplayed the ball, and got lucky. The throw was exactly where it should have been. The CB made a great play on the ball, the WR made a bad play on the ball, and it was still a reception. My point is, it was a well thrown ball by Smith.

Having said all that, it doesn't matter whether it was IU or scUM. The fact remains that Smith and Pittman were the starters, and tOSU did win. The offense is now playing with some confidence. A lot of it had to do with the O line, as well. Again, none of that matters. What does matter is that the offense now is playing with confidence. Any changes that are made this week could well shatter that confidence, and this O could well degenerate to 3 weeks ago. I want the best QB to win, but if Zwick comes back to start, or (less importantly) Ross comes back to start, it could well shatter the newfound confidence of this offense before they even see the field against Penn State. I just hope and pray that Tress leaves well enough alone...and that the offense can continue to gain confidence and momentum.

I might dreaming...

to the best of memory, IU has always been a spark to the offense. I remember the o kicking in after the IU game last year. Hopefully this will continue, and if it does, can we start to schedule them earlier!

I can't beleive how we are talking "Mutiny" on the Buckeye here. And worse i am even more confused when I hear people up in Y-town are talking about bringing back Cooper. There is such a thing as constructive criticism and it doesn't seem to be very evident in many threads out here. We all know that this is a young team compared to what we have had over the past 3 years and they are going to learn from thier mistakes.

We didn't talk like this last year or two years ago. As long as we were winning nothing much was said except for the fact that our offensive line was not that good. They seemed pretty good to me the night I watched them against Kansas State and how excited we were to see a guy like Brandon Joe run with the ball like he did. Jim Tressel has said many times that he is willing to listen to constructive criticism. If that is the case then maybe alot of us in here in "Buckeye Planet" should offer some of our expert knowledge on how to make the team more productive. Lets don't keep all this between ourselves, lets go out and share what we know and feel to Coach Tressel. We all seem to have the answers but just can't seem to solve the problems.

I saw the tent you mentioned and wondered what it was doing up there. I couldn't see any details very well since I didn't have binoculars or anything.

I agree here. I'm not totally convinced that Smith is much better than Zwick but the offense looked the best it has all season. Give this same unit another chance against a real defense (PSU) and see what the outcome is.

I would demote Ross to #2 or 3 on the depth chart as well.
