Game Thread #2 tOSU at #3 Oregon, Sat. Oct. 12, 7:30 pm ET, NBC

"

Autzen Stadium.
That’s been what I’ve seen mainly as the reason why they’ll win.

This years OSU team is mainly 3-4 year starters who have played in Ohio stadium their entire careers, at Beaver Stadium, and even at night at a number of others (ND, sparty, Minnesota etc).

I’ve heard it’s loud there but that seems like a weird reason to negate the advantages OSU seems to have.

Can someone answer this question.

Where does Oregon have an advantage over Ohio State?

I think there’s really two big mismatches in this game.

1. OSU DL vs OU OL
2. OSU WR vs OU DB

They have 3 good WRs but we have 3 corners to neutralize them. I don’t think they have that. So I’m genuinely struggling to see any match up that favors Oregon. Most have pointed to their DL but our OL is playing well and our play calling I think wouldn’t put them in bad positions.

I think as long as OSU doesn’t turn the ball over and as long as our OL wins their share it’s not particularly close. I just don’t see the depth for Oregon to win this game (they can win but I just don’t see how they match up).
Other than home field, they have small advantages here and there. If you are looking for a game changer type advantage, then we’re talking about Jordan Burch, and only Jordan Burch.

Games aren't played on paper. On paper they shouldn't even have been in the stadium with us a few years ago. Paper didn't account for "run left", though.

When I look at their defense that’s the only player where I think we need to account for. Harmon is good as well but we’ve handled him no problem before with lessor teams.

I get that. I’m not talking on paper though. I think of the matchups and I don’t see where there’s a “oh shit that’s an issue” whereas I think all our WRs are a problem for them. Even their #1 DB is not a good matchup on JJ Smith since he’s a smaller guy.

This is the kind of game I think we should play smart. Meaning bend but don’t break will be just fine.

Oregon struggles in the red zone on both offense and defense. So as long as we’re scoring TDs to their field goals we will be just fine.

We cannot give them easy points. Make everything hard for them and that includes no special teams touchdowns allowed.

What I wouldn’t give for a buckeyes touchdown return on special teams in this game.
