I actually agree with you here, but the rules are applied so arbitrarily that you can do the right thing and still get flagged.

Hopping into the WABAC machine to go back to 2006 when an OSU d-lineman got flagged for hitting Colt McCoy....didn’t lower his helmet at all, but because he was 6 inches taller than McCoy, he still got flagged for helmet to helmet. Refs suck and I hate giving them this much discretion to change a game on a bang-bang play.

Thing is, if we didn't kick three red zone field goals then give up a 67 yard TD run to Lawrence would we be talking nearly as much about that one call?
