Police have arrested a Greenfield man they say arranged to sell his teenage daughter into marriage in exchange for money, beer, and meat.

Greenfield is just north of King City.

The man was arrested Sunday when investigators say he asked them to get his daughter back because payment was not made as promised.

Investigators say the man tried to sell his 14-year-old daughter to an 18-year-old man for $16,000, 100 cases of beer and several cases of meat.

The 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of statutory rape.

Police say arranged marriages involving underage girls are a problem in the farming community.

As counsel for the aforementioned husband, I must point out that my client never said "when" he'd pay.

It is our intention to make payment as originally planned, $400 per year for 40 years, a six pack every two weeks, and the taco meat as per the Piggly Wiggly sales events, which are beyond our control.

Finally, my client is in negotiation with Nigerian Banking interests, which he hopes will result in expedited payment.
