'14 IN TE Austin Roberts (UCLA Verbal)

Sounds like we are in really good shape but few talk about this kid.

Big framed kid that could potentially grow into a H-Back with a 4.52 electronic 40 and 36'' vertical. Not to mention his dad was a former big time tight end and now NFL coach.

Maybe it's just me but I think this kid would be an awesome pickup.

Definitely agree. He is high up on my wish list for this class. We probably throw the Aaron Hernandez comparison around too often, but with Roberts, it isn't a crazy comp at all. He has that sort of athletic ability and talent to be a big time offensive threat that can be moved all over the field.

I also agree that his father's influence is a big bonus. Having a dad who coaches at that high of a level means he is probably going to be a guy who will learn the offense quickly and be very good at all the little things that separate the good TEs from the great ones.

11W - 2014 WR AUSTIN ROBERTS

6/20

As first reported a bit ago by Marc Givler, Carmel (Ind.) WR Austin Roberts will not visit Ohio State as planned this weekend.

Austin told me that it's a matter of time before he gets back to Ohio State again.

"My parents just want me to see USC before I go back to Ohio State," he said. "I've been to Ohio State before."

Now the line of thinking on this could go two ways. The first is that his parents are worried that Austin wanted to commit to Ohio State this weekend - they've long been near the top of the list to land his services - and wanted him to add another school to stack the Buckeyes up against. The second option is that Roberts has long wanted to check out USC, a school that some people think is the most likely landing spot for Roberts, and he wants to make sure the Trojans are all he's heard that they are.

Austin did have one other thing to say as it pertained to Ohio State and USC.

"I don't plan on committing anywhere anytime soon."

Carmel High School senior receiver Austin Roberts hasn?t narrowed his college list yet. But there are four schools that might be a little ahead. Those four are University of Miami, Florida, Ohio State and USC.

?Those are the schools that I?ve had the best relationship with at this point,? Roberts said. ?But nobody has been ruled out.?

Roberts? father Alfredo Roberts, the Indianapolis Colts? tight ends coach, was a member of two national championship teams at Miami, the second one under then-coach Jimmy Johnson. The elder Roberts later played for two Super Bowl champions with Dallas under Johnson.

Roberts will be competing in The Opening in Beaverton, Ore., June 30 through July 3. After that, Roberts will take a visit to USC. His only other visit came as a freshman before he was being recruited. Roberts is considering a career in broadcasting.

?So when USC offered, that caught my eye,? Roberts said. ?They?re in the heart of LA. A lot of the alumni have something to do with Hollywood. If I want something to do in broadcasting, that might be where I need to be.?

USC?s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism is considered a top-ranked broadcasting school by U.S. News & World Report and other ranking organizations to be one of the best nationally.

Among Roberts? other 21 offers are Alabama, Florida State, Indiana, Purdue and Stanford.
