13-year old QB commits to USC. Seriously.

""The way I look at it is if David was a phenomenal mathematician and I held him back, wouldn't that be wrong? If he was a great piano player or a gifted child actor and I held him back, wouldn't that be wrong?"

Major difference here dipshit... a prodigy musician/mathematician/actor is can perform w/ the best right now, no further physical developement needed. If this kid could step on the field at USC tomorrow and play that'd be completely different.

I wouldn't say it's a MAJOR difference.

The same argument could be made that a pianist or mathematician while capable of performing at a high level at a young age still needs development to be considered among the "pro's" in their field.

No, I don't think it's quite the same scenario, but the way you're saying it has some holes.

Question...

How is it that Steve Clarkson can train and package all these guys for USC? It is clear from the ESPN article that he has remained in contact with the USC coaching staff and seems to be some sort of recruiting consultant for them. How far must this go to "creep" over whatever line is established by the NCAA?

I should've put the word "physical" in front of developement. While both a pianist and a qb need to develope their skills, there's a lot that needs to happen physically between the time a kid is 13 and 18 to play D1 qb. I remember some kids who absolutely dominated in jr. high football, then everyone else hit puberty and they fell to the back.

Stunning shocker rocks recruiting world | CollegeFootballTalk.com

Posted by John Taylor on February 6, 2010 8:21 PM ET

(Too much?)

While the ink is barely dry on the 2010 Letter of Intents, the battle for 2011 recruits has already commenced in earnest.

And, apparently, we already have a shocker of a verbal commitment.

According to the Mobile Press-Register, highly-rated junior high schooler Spencer Region -- who David Sills affectionately refers to as "the slacker" -- has unexpectedly switched his non-binding commitment from Alabama to Auburn.

(We'll allow the shock to subside before we continue.)

(OK, everybody good? Good. Let's continue.)

Based on all of the reports we've been reading, the offensive lineman was a mortal lock for the Tide. He grew up a 'Bama man, a 'Bama fan, and it looked to be a foregone conclusion that his announcement today would consist of a whole helluva lot of Roll Tide's and the like.

Ah, but the young man threw [cross]the exploiters[/cross] the recruiting experts a major curve ball. And, apparently, to the 100 or so people who went to a sporting goods store to watch his live announcement.

Kudos to the approximately four people who half-heartedly clapped after the de-commitment.

For those who enjoy other people's awkward moments, here's the video:

2015 QB recruit who gave USC a verbal when he was 13 decommits

It appears the speculation has, finally come to fruition.

In February of 2010 and as a 13-year-old seventh grader, David Sills verbally committed to — eventually — play his college football at USC. Fast-forward to September of last year and the firing of the head coach to whom Sills committed, Lane Kiffin. The rumors first sprouted at around that time, and only intensified when Ricky Town, the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in next year’s class, committed to the Trojans in late January.
