'13 TX LB Deon Hollins (UCLA Verbal)

Looks like Adrian Klemm is in charge of his recruitment at UCLA. Impressive get without even having the kid step onto campus. I know that his name was brought up a few times in our potential coaching staff thread, and this guy seems like a juggernaut when it comes to recruiting.

Odd considering he has never visited UCLA, at least not to my knowledge...

I kid. UCLA has really picked it up on the recruiting trial since they hired Mora. Impressive for a guy who never coached at the college level.

In the article Hollins says that he is impressed with Mora's staff, as they know what it takes to get to the NFL. So, pretty easy pitch for someone that wants to get there. Sunny California + NFL experience coaches.

Too bad Ohio State never puts linebackers in the NFL...

Yeah, i'm with you. But it seems that some kids feel more comfortable with a staff that has experience on the nfl level. We're seeing this with nick saban now as well as lane kiffin and to a lesser extent spurrier is doing well at south Carolina with the same pitch.

And stowfan, the same thing has always boggled my mind on why UCLA can't recruit better in football with all that talent just in the city and surrounding LA. Usc is definitely in the hood and is filled with rich pricks, imo. While when I traveled to Westwood it seemed like an actual college town. Idk if the AD just cares more about bball and ia content with being mediocre-terrible in football and just make money off of the bball squad (a la duke and even uconn )

National Honor Society has very little if anything to do with intelligence. That's why I didn't mention intelligence. The chief pre-req of getting into NHS nowadays is volunteer-work, so my original point stands. We're not looking for Terry Tao's, we're looking for high character, team-oriented football players.

Please stop this nonsense about NHS. You are quite incorrect in your absolutes. The main pre-req for getting into NHS is GPA (in a decent curriculum mind you) not volunteer work. If one is admitted into NHS, there is a requirement of doing some volunteer to maintain good status in NHS. Saying that the "chief pre-req" is volunteer work is not correct.

And whoever else chimed in that intelligence is measured by test scores, well that too is quite erroneous. Please stop posting this nonsense as well.

In fact, I click on this thread to get an update about Deon Hollins and if he is still visiting OSU. I do not care what anyone's misguided beliefs are about NHS or intelligence. If anyone feels they must continue to pontificate about NHS, test scores "measuring" intelligence (what a joke), start a thread about it in the Open Discussion forum. This is Deon Hollis' thread!

Congrats to Deon for what he has accomplished academically and athletically. Can't wait to see how his visit to OSU goes.
