Kevin Warren is an ass
moreReggie Keely's role on the basketball court is to be the biggest and baddest basketball player he can be for Ohio University.
In the Mid-American Conference, that can be a daunting chore, considering the wealth of quality post players. But now the Bobcats are stepping up in class, in more ways than one.
And Keely's job gets tougher.
The No. 13 Bobcats (27-7) take on No. 4 Michigan (24-9) at 7:20 tonight in their opening game of the NCAA Tournament. It is Keely's job to patrol the middle, which the product of Cleveland Heights High has done very well the first three years of his college career.
Problem is, when it comes to bulk, he's it for the Bobcats. There is no other scholarship player within 45 pounds of his roster size of 6-8, 265 pounds. The Wolverines have four players checking in at 235 pounds or more.
If Ohio is to match its 2010 NCAA upset of Georgetown, 97-83, Keely has to contain what Michigan gets done in the paint.
"I remember that game very vividly," Keely said of the contest against the Hoyas. "Our offense was real hot that game. We played real good defense and didn't miss many shots. And their bigs couldn't really get into any flow of the game because we kept bodies on them. They weren't much of a factor."
In that game as a freshman, Keely had six points and a rebound. More importantly, Georgetown could not get its big players in a groove.
