'13 MI OL Dennis Finley (Michigan State Verbal)

SW: Let's talk about (offensive tackle) Dennis Finley. Clearly his recruitment has picked up steam and Wisconsin and Ohio State are on his trail. What gives Michigan State the edge on those teams?

AT: First, he has a sister there, so he is very familiar with the school. He has been going there to visit her long before he had the Michigan State offer. Then since he got the offer he has been up there several times. He seems to really like the coaches and what he has seen there. Plus it's the closest to home. I don't think it's a slam dunk for Michigan State, but I think they have a lot of things in their corner that are going to go a long way. That's why they would be my pick at the moment.

Sam Webb: Who is the biggest threat to the Spartans for him?

AT: I think it's Ohio State. He has also been there a couple of times for visits. They have a need at offensive tackle. When it comes to Wisconsin he has mentioned their tradition for offensive linemen, and his coaches have mentioned the tradition for offensive linemen, so they're definitely still a team to look out for.

Not exactly newsworthy but somewhat interesting as to what it could mean re: his teammate Dawson:

Michigan offers Michigan State commit Dennis Finley of Detroit Cass Tech. http://michigan.247sports.com/Board/59424/Michigan-offers-another-Michigan-State-commit-14623245 ? via @247Sports

Just in the last week they've "re-offered" Dawson, as well as offered Kenny Lacy, Cameron Hunt and Finley.

EDIT:

Every indication I've gotten so far is that Dennis Finley will stick with his #MichiganState commitment.

Let scUM take as many as they need (besides the ones we want of course).

Only 5 will see the field at any point, and you can't exactly rotate OL in and out as you can with the DL. At some point they stop serving as additional depth and start being a waste of scholarships. All the better for us.

I beginning to think that their staff is not seeing what they want for the 2012 haul of OT's. It could be Kalis is not recovering from his knee problems. Williams was always a project. Bars and Braden were not that highly ranked. It's strange for a team that took 5 OL's last year look like the want 5 more this year. Especially when what they need are difference makers at WR and CB.

Strange, indeed

How many lineman do the scunkbears need, lol?

Maybe Hoke looked at Wisky's success with the "barge" formation late in the season and wants to do that at Mich as well. 10 lineman across the front with a wildcat qb. The "Titanic" seems fitting for MI, with shane morris in the Dicaprio role.

Seriously, everything I have read on MI since spring was that they wanted 5 lineman. No more, no less. They supposedly even turned away Pocic rather than violate their word to the group that had already committed.:shake::shake: Now they are either willing to take 6, or they have pitted Finley against Dawson for the last spot. 4 or 5 OL are supposedly set to show up on Dec. 14 to fill that last spot. One thing that is certain, it will be entertaining to watch this play out the next few weeks.
