Boone senior punter Johnny Townsend
ORLANDO --
After nearly two years of hard work, it took less than week for Johnny Townsend to decide where he was going to college. The Boone punter recently attended a camp at Ohio State University. When first year head coach Urban Meyer saw Townsend in action he offered him a full scholarship. It turned out to be an offer that Townsend couldn?t refuse.
?It all happened very quickly, a week of solid day after day camps, trying to get as much exposure as possible,? said Townsend. ?It was a very quick process, but the work that went into it was about a two year process. It really wasn?t as quick as most people would think. It was a much longer process, getting ready for that one week period of camps.?
Townsend was named the top punter at Nick Saban?s punting camp at the University of Alabama this summer, where he was offered a preferred walk-on spot for the Crimson Tide.
Townsend?s verbal declaration makes him the first Buckeye commit from the Class of 2013 in the Central Florida area, with a possibility of more to come.
?I?m definitely going to try to get a few kids to come up there with me, I?m going to do a little bit of recruiting,? the 6-foot, 200-pound added. ?I was handed a list of kids in this area that I need to start speaking to and get them familiarized with Ohio State and the coaching staff and the kind of program they are running up there. I definitely am going to talk to other kids, not only at Boone High School, but other kids through Facebook to try to spark some interest up there.?
