'12 WV SF Elijah Macon (West Virginia Verbal)

Elijah should have a little talk with a former Marion Franklin graduate who played some basketball at Ohio State by the name of Herb Williams before declaring his lot with WVU. Plus, many things can change with Huggins in 3-4 years. First impression:huh:

It's far too common to be having the discussion in Elijah's thread.

OSU landed its two star 2010 bigs in 07.
OSU landed its first two 2008 verbals in 05.

Elijah isn't doing anything abnormal. Your issue is with the system, not him.

We received early commitments from Jared Sully and DThomas. It happens. There is a lot of time to change minds, but good luck to the young man if he goes.

I'm not a fan of Huggins, but you could do a lot worse (See John Calipari) for a mentor and its not as if most of the best are going to school for any other reason than to make it to the NBA.

I don't have an "issue". And it being "common" doesn't always mean it's the best way. I just think committing three years in advance is too early, period. I haven't been following the bball forum much lately, but didn't we just have someone decommit that was an early commit?

EDIT: Cam Wright, class of 2010, who committed in 2007, "re-opened" his recruiting in April.

And kids decommit six months after originally committing in football all the time.

Kids will decommit no matter the time period.

Macon and his Marion-Franklin teammates will be among about two dozen high school teams participating in Ohio State's team camp Friday and Saturday on campus. Wonder if Thad Matta can change Macon's mind? Northland also will be at the camp but without Jared Sullinger, who will be at the NBA Players Association Top 100 camp in Charlottesville, Va.

-- An elite camp designed to acquaint high-level prospects with Ohio State's facilities is being advertised for July 2 in Value City Arena, but Matta said the program is not involved in sponsoring it. The 6-hour camp is for ninth through 11th-graders. No word yet on who will attend; the camp organizer did not respond to an e-mail requesting a roster.

Catchin' up (Hoops & Scoops: an OSU basketball blog)

Was at the RPAC on Saturday and happened to walk past the scrimmages going on...stopped to watch for a little while and realized when I was watching Marion-Franklin that the big guy having a field must have been Macon. Competition was weak in the game I watched but his talent was obvious...seemed like a good teammate as well...quick to pick a teammate off the floor or show some encouragement to a teammate struggling. His team had a really quick point guard who did a good job finding teammates in transition...and Macon was almost always there to clean up any messes.
