'12 PA RB Rushel Shell (Pitt Signee; Transfer to West Virginia)

Are Ball and Shell too similar? Or do you offer both, ask ask for an early commitment, and let them duke it out when they get on campus? I feel like both are too good to pass on. Especially with these recent comments.

Ball is the most balanced of the Ball/Shell/Dunn trio. Dunn and Shell are the most similar, but the plus with Dunn is that he could also translate at LB. I'd be surprised if both Shell and Dunn got offers.

I agree...Ball is a sure offer, in my book...and then Dunn and Shell will be long looks. OSU obviously takes 2 RBs at least next year and possibly 3 if the staff feels like Dunn could possibly help them elsewhere.

Another kid I really like is William Mahone from Austintown Fitch...already has a verbal offer from UC.

Can anybody speak to the level of competition that Dunn and Shell play against? The impression that I get is that Shell plays in a much tougher arena, but I have no real basis for this comparison other than what I've read at western PA.

Brionte Dunn plays for Division 1 Region 2, Canton GlenOak in the Federal league.
Other teams in the Fed include McKinley, Hoover, Boardman, Fitch, Jackson, Green, Lake, and Perry, i.e. tough competiton.
Out of Conference opponents include Massillon and Wash. D.C. Woodson.
I can't say that Shell's arena of competition is weaker or stronger, but Dunn at GlenOak will face some of the elite Div. 1 teams of Northeast Ohio.

Yeah, I don't think there is much debate as to who is the better back between Shell and Dunn. Shell's off-field issues might tip the scales to Dunn, though.

But if Dunn shows out at LB this year, I'd love to get all three if that's possible.

I actually think Shell is the most balanced. Duane Long likes to use the term "satellite guy," and that term fits Ball right now. He plays in a double wing offense at De La Salle, so he's been primarily used on sweeps and tosses so far.

Shell plays in an I-formation offense, and figures in the passing game a little bit.

Dunn's junior season will be the key here. He has to show that he has his weight under control; even then, he may not be as talented as the other two.

Shell has some off the field concerns, though. He may not be worth the risk when you have two other talented backs in your own state.

Of course, this isn't even factoring in Keith Byars Jr., who could make a splash his junior season and change everything.
