From the LSU site...visited Oklahoma State and LSU this week...has plans to see Auburn, South Carolina, North Carolina and Vanderbilt...interested in the Colorado schools...says he has a good idea of where he wants to go and may not take all five officials.

Colorado lineman examines USC

 The parade of large offensive linemen continued at USC Friday with a visit from Alex Kozan (6-4 295) of Castle Rock, CO. Kozan made USC one of his stops on a swing thru the Southwest and South. He's also been to Oklahoma State, Arkansas, LSU and Auburn. He will be at North Carolina Saturday and will visit Vanderbilt on the way back home. Kozan met with USC offensive line coach Shawn Elliott Friday morning and the visit went on from there. ?It went good,? he said. ?I got a tour. They have got great facilities. I saw what the program is about. I went thru the academic support and learned more about their business program. And I saw the (baseball) parade. That was cool.? Kozan has 21 offers at this point. Some of the others are Colorado, Colorado State, Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State, Duke and Wake Forest. Of the schools he's visiting, all have offered except for Auburn. ?I'm trying to a better feel for the schools in the South,? he said. ?I'll have a top five to seven around the first week in August then take a couple of official visits. I'll have a decision by mid-October.? Kozan said Elliott is very interested in him because he fits a specific need for the Gamecocks. ?He told me they are looking to sign five offensive linemen in this class,? Kozan said noting the Gamecocks have three linemen committed, two tackles and a guard. "They are looking to sign two more guards. He thinks I would be a good fit.? Kozan did not name a favorite.

Calls LSU, Oregon and Iowa his biggest offers...says an OSU offer would be really hard to turn down...said the OSU staff wants to get together before deciding on an offer.

Make it so Bollman, could always use more bigs in this class. I hope that this doesn't bog down. An OL class of Boren, Kozan, Davidson and maybe another Kalis round would be a great answer to losing out on Decker and Dodson.

How did Ohio State "lose out" on Decker when, by all accounts, they never offered him?

It could be said that that Washington State didn't lose out on Braxton Miller because they didn't offer him.
If I don't try for a hot chick at closing time I didn't lose out.
If I'm sleepy or incompetent and don't make an effort to improve my fitness level - I didn't lose out.

Quit defending the indefensible.

We need tackles worse than any D1A program in the country, yet Bollman lacks any sense of urgency or perhaps he is going scorched earth.


There is no defense.

Especially for a kid like Decker, a high end student, 60 miles from Columbus, who is a proto-type OT with offers from schools whose OL accomplishments have dwarfed OSU's under Bollman.

I don't mean to offend, but we are to post on this board keeping in mind a recruit may read it. Hence, we should not post things like; "the kid's film sucked", or "we don't really want him", or "the kid's future position coach is an idiot and should be replaced". If any of the above was posted elsewhere, (hint, hint), I wouldn't care in the least.

Somewhat semantics and I'm not trying to be alarmist. My point is that they lost out on the opportunity of even going after Decker because of their slow play. This is even after Bollman has admitted to needing some numbers. From the Coach Bollman official thread:

Even if Carter does sign with the Buckeyes, they will still be dangerously low in numbers on the offensive line after coming short of their goal in each of the past two classes.
“Well, we’re going to have to catch up sooner or later,” Bollman said.

But I'd say that the staff had early contact (February of 2010 or so) on Decker and played a waiting game. He attended camps and Bollman got a nice long look and he was an admitted OSU fan. If he isn't an offer-able talent then that's fine, but from his offer list it sure seems like he's up there somewhere. When kids get the hint that they are being recruited as a back-up plan, which is what I got from the Decker recruitment, then its going to bite you in the butt when you need the back-up plan. Highly ranked in-state Ohio prospects at the OT position... and they don't get an offer (Decker), or get an offer 24 hours before they are ready to commit to another school (Dodson).

My ultimate point is that it would be nice if they at least offered Kozan, he seems talented! You do need ~5 OL on the field of play...

So I agree, they didn't officially "lose out" on Taylor Decker. But when the Buckeye's are getting into issues fielding a healthy 2-deep on the OL, can you afford not to get into the game on some of these kids?

The OL recruiting seems to be so selective but contrastingly in such a dire need. I don't know why a bigger net isn't being casted for some talented and intriguing guys, especially possible OT's.
