Valor Christian OL Alex Kozan has a plan

In their three-plus years in Durham, Head Coach David Cutcliffe and Offensive Line Coach Matt Luke have built the Duke offensive line into what is expected to be a position of strength in 2011. The past two recruiting classes have brought in a very good group of young offensive linemen, and the Blue Devils hope to continue that trend with the class of 2012. Alex Kozan, a 6'4" 295 pound prospect from Valor Christian in Colorado, is one of the most highly recruited offensive linemen in the country, and the Blue Devils are among the long list of schools he is considering.

BDN: Can you start off by describing your strengths for fans who haven't had a chance to see you play?

As a player, I'm smart, I never forget my assignments, I've got good quick feet that allows me to stay in good position. Explosiveness off the ball, hand contact, hip movement, that kind of stuff, that'd be my strength.

That's what they [Scout] say but it's tough to tell when recruiting OL...what if he grows another two inches? And even if he doesn't, does he have the technique down to play tackle? Cordle played tackle at 6-foot-4 if I remember correctly.

Yes, but Cordle was also more effective on the interior.

I just want for Ohio State to bring in guys who can handle the responsibilities of being a tackle, not just a guy who's more suited for the interior who can do a rough job of covering the outside. Right now, we have very few quality tackles.

Good offensive tackles must have quick feet and long arms.

Exciting to see that Alex grew up a tOSU fan and also won the OL MVP award at camp. It would be nice to see him in Scarlet and Gray. He still has time to grow another inch or so. He mentions one of his assets is quick feet and so that might play out well as an OT.

Even if he's not a tackle, I think you've got to offer him. If you have to change how you run your spring game due to a lack of O-linemen, you have a big problem. Kozan loves us and he's got the potential to be a great player for us. Get him on campus and figure out his position on the line later.

Besides, it would be kinda nice to tap into the great plains there in Colorado for future recruiting. We're seeing the dividends of Curtis Grant's Virginia contacts...

Speaking of the Spring Game, MHO is we're an offense line away from being a national title contender.
