Notre Dame arrives in style to see Neal
Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly, co-defensive coordinator Kerry Cooks and receivers coach Tony Alford showed up Thursday at Luke Neal's home in a black Escalade. They rented it after coming in on a private jet, Neal said.
The coaches came for a home visit with Scottsdale Chaparral receiver/cornerback Davonte' Neal, who said Wednesday that he would take his last official visit to the University of Arizona on Feb.11, before deciding which college he would attend.
"That was pretty funny," Davonte' said of the Notre Dame coaches showing up in the black Escalade.
Neal's first official recruiting trip was to Notre Dame, which this week saw prized quarterback Gunner Kiel enrol in the school.
"It went really good," Neal said. "I had a good conversation with the coaches.
"They came in to talk about the program. I just sat back and listened."
Neal has visited Notre Dame and Ohio State and will visit Arkansas this weekend. He said all of the schools on his visit list have told him that they would wait for him with a scholarship, even though it is going to be at least 10 days after the Feb. 1 Signing Day.
"I like to know that there is a school that wants me that bad," Neal said.
Davonte' also wouldn't say UA was the favorite just because he is looking into the Wildcats last at such a late date.
"I'm open to anywhere," Davonte' said. "I've not decided on where I want to be. I'm open to all the schools. All are evenly matched."
