Big market for Mangiro
Angelo Mangiro is considering all options and using an Excel sheet to make his choice

ESPN Recruiting

SUCCASUNNA, N.J. -- Roxbury High School offensive lineman Angelo Mangiro is quickly emerging as one of the top prospects at his position in the nation and with that, comes the big decision of what program will land him.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pounder is a tremendous athlete (he's 271 points away from 1,000 career points in basketball) and he's leading the way for a re-design of his high school's athletic Hall of Fame. So obviously, he's in high demand.

Mangiro has scholarship offers from programs across the country, including Penn State, Rutgers, Ohio State, USC, Florida, Pittsburgh, North Carolina and North Carolina State, among others.

Rutgers is sticking out to Angelo Mangiro right now because it has been on him since his freshman year.

It's going to be a tough decision for the rising star and he's looking at each of his options in depth.

"My coach and I just made an Excel spreadsheet where we list all of the criteria," Mangiro said. "You can rate and then add it all together at the end. It's been pretty accurate so far."

Here are the four major factors Mangiro is considering.

New Jersey lineman gets USC offer

By Phil Kornblut
USC recently offered OL Angelo Mangiro (6-4 295) of Roxbury, NJ. He's also picked up recent offers from UCLA and Stanford. Some of his other offers are Rutgers, Maryland, Boston College, North Carolina, NC State, Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Virginia. Mangiro has visited Rutgers, Penn State, Ohio State and Pittsburgh. He's planning to visit Boston College and some of the Southern schools. He might check out USC this summer while in Myrtle Beach. Mangiro plans to come up with a top five after his summer visits and take his official visits. He wants to make a decision before his basketball season. He's not claiming favorites right now

He could be one of our biggest(no pun intended) commits for this class if we were to land him. I still like our chances, especially with all the positive things being said about our Oline this year. This kid could step in, in a year or 2 and be a great addition! Hopefully he takes an official for the PSU game, and sees how far ahead our program is then theres.

I think we can fit in 6 OL, but it would be at the expense of either Kevin McReynolds or Joel Hale at DT. But, if it Mangiro that we take instead of either of those guys then I am fine with it. We are pretty loaded on the DL in-state for 2012 anyway. Would LOVE 1 of Mangiro, McReynolds or Hale... first one in is in.

Agreed. Walker is 1A Mangiro is 1B. The difference? Walker can play both guard and Tackle. Mangiro is a guard. I think we have the best shot at Bennet then Hale. We will be in great shape on both line fronts when this class is finished.

When I said 1 of Mangiro, McReynolds and Hale... I was including Walker, Bennett and Sturdivant already as part of the class on the OL and DL.

OL: Carter, Bobek, Underwood, Brown... plus Walker... maybe Mangiro
DL: Farris, Hayes, Miller... plus Bennett & Sturdivant... maybe McReynolds or Hale

I think we have room for 11 "bigs"

Does Angelo Mangiro still seem like a Penn State lean?
-zulu

Rutgers was the first offer, Boston College is growing on him, USC has an allure for him, Ohio State impressed Mangiro a lot too. Distance I feel will factor into his decision as will opportunity to win some championships. All the variables lean to Penn State from where I sit. It's not too far from his family (2 hours or so), he likes their offense with his main strength being run blocking, Joe Paterno, his family loves Penn State, and it's the Big Ten. I'm not saying Mangiro is a lock to Penn State, but that's the smart bet right now in my opinion.

I wouldn't expect an announcement from Angelo until November at the earliest.

I guess he'd have the opportunity to win Big 10 championships, but that is about the best he's gonna get in Happy Valley. :oh:
