'11 GA LB James Vaughters (Stanford Signee)

Ten@10: James Vaughters seeks answers from Stanford after Harbaugh?s departure

THE TEN AT 10:

After coach Jim Harbaugh's departure for the NFL, the question is how much longer will James Vaughters carry Stanford's banner. (AJC photo by Chip Towers)

1. James Vaughters is taking a wait-and-see approach with regard to Stanford. For the moment at least, the AJC Super 11 LB from Tucker remains committed to the Cardinal despite this week?s news that coach Jim Harbaugh is leaving to take over the San Francisco 49ers.

?I really don?t know everything yet,? Vaughters said this week. ?I can?t make my decision until I know everything. Who his replacement is going to be, that?s the most important thing.?

Vaughters hopes to get some answers when he, Ola defensive back Ra?Chard Pippens and most of Stanford?s 22 commitments make official visits to Stanford this weekend. It had been planned for weeks that they all make their officials together this weekend.

?We?re talking,? Vaughters said of his fellow pledges ?The whole class is going to be out there. We?ll find out what?s going on then.?

2. Vaughters? primary concern is not with Harbaugh as much as it is defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Fangio, a former NFL coach who has been mentioned as a possible successor, was one of the main reasons he chose the Cardinal. ?They?re trying to keep him,? Vaughters said of Fangio. ?We?ll see.?

3. If Vaughters chooses to bolt Stanford, his eyes will immediately turn to four other schools. Georgia Tech and Ohio State finished in a tie for second when Vaughters made his announcement for Stanford last June. Georgia and Alabama rounded out Vaughters? final five.

listened to rivals radio this morning and they had Mike Farrell on...he pretty much said what wad and others have been saying about how he thinks he is a Stanford commit, but depending on who they hire as a coach and if he keeps his official to Ohio State then he wouldnt be surprised if he ended up elsewhere...thought since he committed so early, and he and his parents love the campus and the academics that it is going to be hard for him to leave even after harbaugh left...but for Ohio State fans the official visit here to Columbus is going to be very key

James Vaughters ?disappointed? Stanford D-coordinator likely out

James Vaugthers and his family got word that David Shaw had been named Stanford?s new head coach only a couple of hours before boarding a plane Thursday to make his official visit to the school. But who Shaw hires as defensive coordinator is probably going to play an even more important role in whether Vaughters honors his commitment and signs with the Cardinal on national signing day.
Vaughters, an AJC Super 11 linebacker from Tucker and the No. 4-ranked player in the state, has been committed to Stanford since last June. But he said after coach Jim Harbaugh left to coach the San Francisco 49ers he may have to reconsider his decision depending on what happened to the coaching staff.
Shaw, Stanford?s offensive coordinator since Harbaugh has been there, was tabbed the new head coach on Thursday.
?We really don?t know that much about him,? Vaughters? father, Jonathan Vaughters said as they waited for their delayed flight to San Francisco at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Thursday. ?I think James and his mother met him while they were out there on his first trip. But, being on the defensive side of the ball, we didn?t really get to know him that well. It?s good that they?ve at least named a head coach and we?ll get a chance to hear his point of view while we?re out there.?
