'11 GA LB James Vaughters (Stanford Signee)

This story just got a lot more interesting. James doesn't seem as sold as we might have thought.

Just when the Cardinal think they took some pressure off recruiting by hiring in-house, the pressure goes right back on until they make a great hire at DC.

49ers hired Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator.
Working for Jim Harbaugh, Fangio coordinated a Stanford defense in 2010 that ranked 21st in NCAA, 19th versus the run and 35th against the pass. Fangio was last an NFL coordinator in Houston, flaming out after four years under Dom Capers. Though Fangio isn't a sexy hire, he has an obvious working relationship with Harbaugh and will keep the 49ers' 3-4 scheme intact. The Niners have enough talent to remain an above-average defense. AJC Super 11 linebacker James Vaughters of Tucker told me he had a ?good trip? to Stanford this past weekend and that he and his family were very impressed with new coach David Shaw. ?He has NFL experience and I trust he?ll hire an experienced defensive coordinator and another good linebackers coach. I really enjoyed it out there.?

Vaughters and his family made the long trek to California for his official visit Thursday and stayed through Sunday. One of Vaughters? chief concerns was the departure of Stanford defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Vic Fangio, who followed head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL.

As for whether or not he?ll stick with his commitment to the Cardinal, Vaughters, the AJC?s the No. 4 prospect, said, ?I haven?t completely decided yet but I?m pretty sure.? He said he may still visit Florida and Ohio State.
