'11 GA F Julian Royal (Georgia Tech Verbal)

I'm friends with Julian in real life. HIGHLY doubtful he goes to Northwestern.

Hell I play with him all the time at Lifetime Fitness near us...

North Carolina is recruiting him hard as Roy Williams visited Julian's household last Thanksgiving.

?Julian Royal?s recruiting has been very intense,? Boyd told the AJC. ?I think his three favorites, and I?m not going to put them in any order, are Georgia, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech.?

Royal has around 40 major-college offers. Why those three?

?With Georgia, I just think [Mark Fox] has done outstanding work there,? Boyd said. ?They got Marcus Thornton, which really turned a lot of heads. That was very impressive. Georgia is an up-and-coming program and a state school.

?Georgia Tech is close to home, in the ACC, and they have sent a lot of guys to the NBA.

?Wake has always been a school highly interested in Julian, even with the coaching change.?

UGA, Wake Forest and Georgia Tech lead 40 schools for Royal (AJC)

Boyd said that Royal is also taking looks at Alabama, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Virginia. ?He has not really made any decision [narrowing down schools yet]. He hasn?t given me a list. But those three ? Georgia, Wake and Tech ? are the three schools I keep hearing about the most during our conversations.?

When will Royal make his college decision? Before his senior season begins? ?That?s a good question ? I don?t know,? Boyd said. ?I think it would take a lot of stress off Julian if he decided during the summer or fall. But that?s up to him.?

Peach State: Julian Royal update
by greg.ostendorf

With the Alabama targets out of the Peach Jam, I headed to the Peach State Showcase tonight to watch Julian Royal and the Southern Kings Gold 17u team play.

In the first game, SKG knocked off a talented Baltimore Elite team that included highly touted guard Nick Faust. Royal struggled in the game, scoring just two points in the first half. I didn?t get a chance to stay for the entire second game, but Royal started to show some potential.

He?s listed at 6′7 but looked more like 6′9, and he was bigger than I thought. He?s got prototypical size for the four position, and while he didn?t get up and down the floor as quick as I thought he might, he?s got good hops.

When I watched him, it just seemed like he let the game come to him too much. He wasn?t assertive enough on the offensive end. I would?ve guessed he was the best or one of the best players on his team, but that didn?t show in the games tonight.

With that said, he still has the potential to be a very good player and somebody Alabama could really use down low. I got a chance to talk to him between games.

On Alabama:

?I like the new coaches. I like Coach Grant and Coach Brannen. Those are two really good coaches, and I?ve just grown to like them a lot. The situation seems to be pretty good at Alabama. I know they signed another kid in our class, Levi Randolph, who?s pretty good.?

On the if the need for big guys will impact his decision:

?Yeah, it just depends on what kind of players they have there already and what they need.?

Royal told me he?s favoring Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest, but that new schools are showing interest in him.

Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting - Orlando: Super Showcase winds down

Julian Royal - He didn't get off to a fast start, but Royal really picked it up late. The power forward showed off his complete game. He scored from three off the catch, he hit from the mid-range, and then he played with his back to the basket and finished with spin moves in the paint. Royal put all of his natural talent on display and showed a fire to help his team win the game that doesn't always seem to be there.

Georgia Tech edges out archrival UGA for Atlanta basketball star

4:18 pm October 14, 2010, by Michael Carvell

Georgia Tech edged out archival Georgia for one of the state’s top basketball prospects on Thursday.

Milton High’s Julian Royal committed to Yellow Jackets over the Bulldogs in front of around 150 students and supporters. The 6-foot-9 power forward said he will sign with Georgia Tech on Nov. 10.

“Both programs are great … my heart says to go to Georgia Tech,” said Royal, who whipped out a Georgia Tech baseball cap and put it on his head.

It was a big win for Georgia Tech, where Royal is expected to compete for immediate playing time.

“They are getting a post player who has a tremendous amount of skill and versatility,” Milton coach David Boyd said. “He is someone who can play well in the post area and step out there and consistently shoot 3-pointers.”

Last year as a junior, Royal averaged 17 points and 8 rebounds while leading Milton to the state championship in Georgia’s largest classification. He made two clutch foul shots with no time on the clock in a 52-51 win over Norcross in the Class AAAAA quarterfinals.

Royal had more than 30 early scholarship offers and narrowed down to Georgia, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest in recent months. He eliminated Wake Forest last week, making the two in-state rivals his finalists.

With his senior season left to play, Royal is Milton’s all-time leading career scorer with 1,602 points. He is one of six Milton players who has been offered a major-college scholarship. Point guard Shannon Scott has committed to Ohio State, while shooting guard Dai-Jon Parker is considering multiple offers, including Georgia.
