From the NC State site. The Wolfpack have offered Welch, who says he was surprised that he didn't have any offers to this point. His mother, who was in North Carolina on business, stopped at the school and came away impressed with the staff and facilities. His top five is NC State, Virginia, Notre Dame, Cincinnati and Ohio State.

One Ohio tight end recently selected a college as Alex Smith from West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West committed to Cincinnati over a host of other scholarship offers including Michigan.

With Smith off the board, Cincinnati (Ohio) Elder tight end Alex Welch is quickly becoming the man in Ohio at his position.

The 6-foot-5 and 225-pound Welch already had scholarship offers from Indiana and North Carolina State. Within the last week Welch has added offers from Boston College, Maryland and Northwestern.

Other schools Welch mentions include Michigan State, UCLA, Cincinnati, Virginia and Ohio State.

Welch caught 32 passes for over 400 yards and four touchdowns during his junior season.

Badgers go for another Ohio tight end

In February the Wisconsin Coach Bret Bielema signed the top tight end prospect in the state of Ohio in Brian Wozniak (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland). Bielema would like to land another top tight end from the Buckeye State for his 2010 recruiting class.

Over the weekend Cincinnati (Ohio) Elder tight end Alex Welch added a scholarship offer from the Badgers to his list. The 6-foot-5 and 225-pound Welch now has offers from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Boston College, Maryland and Bowling Green. Welch visited Northwestern on Saturday.

What is OSU waiting on? This kid seems good enough for an offer. They definitely need at least two TE's in this class. Pretty sure going out of state is going to be hard enough to pull a kid, met alone one in state who we gotta convince to block for the next 4 to 5 years if his life.

I'll go with that.

Your idea of the problem may lie in the type of TE we consistently look at. We have lost a lot of pass catching TE recruits over the years, mainly because they do not catch passes at tOSU. The ones who do come here, understand their role, and most are usually future possibilities at OL.

To me, Jake Stoneburner is the key to getting TE recruits, and even then the effects will be 3 years down the road. If he dominates like the BTMFTNOCC or whatever it is, we will end up with field stretching TE's for years to come. If we can't make it work with Stoney, we may be out of luck, or even just cursed at that position.

6'5 225 recruits with speed fit really nice into only a certain few positions. We need to show we can utilize those kids to move the ball first, in order to get more of them. Those of them who want to focus on O, I mean.

If we aren't going to offer Alex Smith, I don't know who we are going to offer.

OH TE Likes South

By Eric Guimaraes
TE Alex Welch (6-5 225) of Cincinnati, OH has several offers already from different parts of the country. BC, Stanford, Cincinnati, NC State, Maryland, Indiana, Purdue, Kansas, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Illinois, and Bowling Green have all offered and he is hearing from Tennessee and North Carolina. Welch said he would like to hear from Clemson too. "My aunt and uncle live close to there," said Welch. "I've driven by it before. I've seen them play on T.V. I like the way they play." He says he doesn't mind moving away from home to go to school. "Most of my offers are away from home, " he said. "Looks like that just the way it's going to be. I don't mind." Welch has already been to Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, and Purdue and is planning a trip to Ohio State. "I want to go visit some schools in the south," he said. Welch had 32 receptions for 48 yards and four touchdowns as a junior. He does not have any favorites
