Is that what is holding us up with an offer here , academics . Man , when are these student athletes going to realize that these D1 schools look at brain as well as brawn . Best Wishes for Erick I REALLY hope he pulls it together so he can done the s&g .

A couple months ago, someone mentioned how unimpressive Howard was in the Louisville game last year (2008). That game was an anomaly. Not only did Louisville have a great defense, but they also stacked 10-11 men on the line of scrimmage and dared North Canton to pass the ball. North Canton responded by throwing 5 interceptions. There was a QB change the following week to a talented jr., and Hoover didn't lose again until St. Ignatius, the #2 team in the country. The poster was correct that Howard is a difference maker on defense.

I also disagree with those who say he is not explosive. He may not have blazing speed, although 4.5 is nothing to shake a stick at, but he is definitely explosive. He hits a hole with a burst and power. Arm/shoulder tackles don't even cause him to break stride, and if a defender even wants a shot at tackling Howard, he better square him up. Of course, a lot of the defenders who squared him up last year were very slow to get up. Hopefully he stays healthy, and I can't wait for football season.

CATCHING UP WITH HOWARD

Hoover running back and reigning Ohio Mr. Football Erik Howard has college recruiters salivating. As soon as Howard gets it together off the field, he?ll field offers from all over the country.

Howard will take the ACT next month. That score and his accumulative grade-point average will go a long way toward offers rolling in for him.

?People are just waiting to see if he becomes a qualifier,? Hoover head coach Don Hertler Jr. said. ?He?s got a lot of people very interested, and he?s going to go to summer camps as well.?

Kansas and Illinois are the only offers Howard has in hand. That could change.

NCAA eligibility requirements are on a sliding scale. The higher a student?s GPA, the lower his entrance test score can be. For example, a 2.0 GPA needs a 23 ACT. A 2.5 GPA needs an 18.

Good for him in improving his ACT to a 20. Says he wants to improve it even more. I really hope this kid gets an offer from OSU. I'm not a recruiting tape expert but he looks like a player that WILL NOT go down easy on the field. He looks like he runs every down like it's his last.

You guys think that with the uncertainty of Carlos Hyde the staff might be a little more interested in Howard? I'm not jumping on the "we'll never see Hyde here" bandwagon...but it's a thought im sure the staff might consider.

Yah, you know it's in their minds, it has to be as a staff because you can't ever assume things. In their minds right now, they could still be a RB behind even with Smith (because I think they were taking a back in this class anyways).
