'10 OH OL Matt James (Notre Dame Signee - RIP)

Since 2004....

Rivals lists 316 recruits from Cincinnati....

Ohio State has offered 13 of those 316 (4.11%)....

Ohio State has signed 5 of those 13 (Schoenhoft, Smith, Moeller, Clifford, Posey), and has a verbal commitment from one other (Norwell)....

Notre Dame has signed one of those 13 (Rudolph), and has verbal commitments from two others (Hendrix, Welch)....

Michigan has signed one of those 13 (Mixon)....

Tennessee has signed one of those 13 (Martin)....

LSU has a verbal commitment from one of those 13 (Ware)....

One of the 13 is still undecided (James)....

UC has signed none of the 13.

These numbers surprise me.....It doesn't hurt that Kerry Coombs is an assistant at UC, however I would have thought that his success at Colerain would have resulted in more recruits coming to UC from Cincy. That being said, I would agree that most of the big time prospects are going to go where they think the coaching and facilities provide them the best opportunity for playing on Sundays.

How many Cincy kids with OSU offers have actually picked UC over OSU?

So far in the 2010 class? None. Could change with James, but almost certainly won't if Kelly goes elsewhere.

2009 class? None.

2008 class? None.

2007 class? None.

In fact, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but, regardless of where the recruit is from, it doesn't appear that, at least going back through the 2007 class, a single kid has ever picked UC over tOSU when the kid had offers from both.

I'm just not that concerned about UC and Cincy talent. I'm more concerned with Notre Dame and Tennessee.

I think you are correct with all recruits. Pead claims he got an OSU offer, but I don't think he ever actually got one. Woods had one, but it was gone by the time he verballed to UC. After those 2 does Cincy have anyone on their roster that had a scholly offer on the table when they chose UC? I don't think so.

I believe your memory is accurate--No one on the roster had an offer at the time they chose Cincy, however, tOSU did offer Alex Daniels and I think they were after Vidal Hazelton.
Daniels chose to go to Minny, got into some troubles and transferred to the Bearcats. Hazelton signed with USC and then transferred to Cincy.

I thought DJ Woods was offered by OSU, but decided to go to UC because he wanted an opportunity to play WR instead of DB.
Incorrect.

DJ Woods was offered by OSU but he verballed to another school. (Nebraska and Bill Callahan). Callahan was fired and D.J. decided to back out of the verbal, and inquired to Ohio State about getting the previous offer back on the table. Ohio State declined. D.J. went on to look at WVU and Cincy, and chose Cincy.

It was speculated Tressel liked D.J. at corner, but Tressel is also known as someone who doesn't pigeon-hold his recruits and finds the best place on the field for them...
Correct ... but Woods actually committed to West Virginia, and then de-committed when RichRod weaseled out of his contract. He finally ended up at UC.

Correct ... good points.

Lets say Matt wants to commit. Do we let him? Letting Matt commit might make Henderson look elsewhere. Or do we take whoever commits first, because we have to leave scholarships open for Joyner, Floyd, and Hicks at the least. Not sure there would be room for both Henderson and James

Henderson is generally regarded as the best OL prospect in the country - in fact, he is the #1 overall recruit on both Rivals and Scout. I doubt Henderson is concerned about competition, regardless of which school he should select. He probably feels - with some justification - that he could start right away at any school in the country.

So, to answer your question, I don't think that Henderson is at all concerned about Matt James ... or Andrew Norwell for that matter.

Ohio State would take both Henderson and James, no doubt about it.
