Class of 2010 ESPNU 150 Watch List athlete Matt Elam was in attendance for Florida's win over Miami last weekend and has the Gators out in front for his services, affiliate Web site GatorCountry.com reports.

He said following the visit, "Florida is still on top for me. That hasn't come close to changing."

West Virginia and Wisconsin have already extended offers to Elam. South Carolina and Georgia are two other programs, like Florida, after the versatile junior.

Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Dwyer ATH Matt Elam didn't want to wait. Even though he just turned 17 years old, he still wanted to give his commitment to Florida, Rivals.com reported. The 6-foot-0, 205-pound running back/safety also reported scholarship offers from Wisconsin and West Virginia.

"I committed to Florida this morning," Elam told Rivals.com Wednesday. "I have been to camps up there and games at the Swamp. I know the coaches and the relationship is so close. I love the atmosphere at Florida and the Swamp is great. Florida has always been my team and I have always wanted to play there."

Elam posted 16 tackles in a 6-0 loss to rival Belle Glade (Fla.) Glades Central last week. He will be able to sign with Florida in February 2010. Elam said Florida likes him at the safety position.

Committed to Florida
Scouting Report: Probably the best two-way high school player in this class. Dominates as both a running back and linebacker, but his frame will likely have him playing safety in college. Elam is kind of a freak of nature, training with NFL guys as a freshman. Incredibly instinctual player, combined with his speed, puts him in position to make a lot of plays. Great finisher on both offense and defense. Has good COD ability, no wasted motion. Pretty impressive strength at contact for his size. With versatility comes the fact that he doesn't really have a natural fit at the next level. Some consider Elam a tweener, but his instincts are so good, I think he could end up Roy Williams reincarnate at safety. Should be one of the front runners for national player of the year awards as a senior.

No less than 24 hours after Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and his staff plucked Pahokee wide receiver Nu?Keese Richardson from the University of Florida, they started going after another of the Gators? prized commits: Dwyer linebacker Matt Elam, who will be a senior this fall.

Dwyer coach Jack Daniels said he got a call from Tennessee assistant Eddie Gran, who also recruited Richardson, the day after national signing day. Gran offered a scholarship to Elam, who orally committed to Florida in October, and fellow junior linebacker Gerald Christian.

Gran told Daniels the Volunteers would not press Elam because of his UF commitment, but?

?I?ve got a bunch of calls from Tennesee in the last few days,? Daniels said Tuesday.

?They acted like they weren?t going to pursue him because he?s committed to Florida, but then I started getting some text messages.?

First off, this kid's a stud.

Secondly, there is a poster on TOS that claims that Elam and Gerald Christian will take visits to tOSU for the USC game. Says tOSU has a connection that's really pushing the Buckeyes.

With that being said, if Meyer doesn't leave UF, this kid will be a Gator. If he does leave.......

And what if that meant Matt was considering finishing HS up north? Not saying it's going to happen...just saying it's not out of the realm of the possible...

The kid is a beast on offense running the ball and receiving out of the backfield. He has excellent acceleration and runs with violence.

I can see the potential on defense, but nothing outside of his speed and acceleration jumped off of the screen. I didn't see any headhunting, but a lot of arm tackling. But I defenitely see the potential for him to develop into a dominating force at safety.

Obviously this thread is on the tracking board for 2010, but do any of our "insiders" really think we have much of a chance luring one, two, or perhaps both of these kids from Florida? Has the staff even been in contact with them that we know of or are these kids just looking for a free trip to the OSU/USC game?

With the Louis stuff from yesterday...when I saw this name on our bp tracker I nearly lost it. He is a stud; if we can get him up here for a visit (even if he's not considering us that much) it can't hurt in terms of making even more of an inroads into Florida recruiting.

Also, Rivals shows an Offer from Ohio State for him, but I didn't see him on our Offer List when I went to look(since we didn't even have a thread on him til today).

They just added that today. I know for a fact they did because I looked at his rivals profile this morning and it wasn't there. Interesting.

hmm. I guess you could take it as a sign that maybe "something" really is brewing behind the scenes...

but in all reality I still say the chances of us pulling this kid away from Florida are slim to none, and im leaning more towards none.

If you have a Rivals sub, then his junior year LB highlights are much better.

I'm hoping we can get a visit too.
