Didn't Florida really, really, really suggest that he not visit elsewhere? Scarety Cats. lol

I think we're assuming too much with this DB hall too. I think of the bunch Bryant is the only clear cut Safety. Hagan seems to me a Moeller type player that might be better suited for the Will or Star.; Joyner might end up on offense; Anderson might even get a shot at O or even Corner. So Elam could fill a possible need at Safety. Hopefully, he'll shake Urban's electronic ankle bracelet and make a visit.

Elam wavering on UF commitment?

All-American defensive back Matt Elam of Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer, which hosts Armwood in Friday night's Class 4A state semifinals, orally committed to the University of Florida in October 2008.

That might be changing.

The Palm Beach Post reported that Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher were at Dwyer's campus on Tuesday meeting with Elam.

Elam, a two-way star, said he will take his official visit to Gainesville after the playoff game against Armwood. Elam has rushed for 1,529 yards and 22 touchdowns.

"I'm committed to Florida," Elam told the Post. "I'm still doing some thinking. I'll do my official visit this weekend and I'll make my decision after."

Still, Elam said he's intrigued by the possibility of playing with Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast linebacker Jeff Luc, who orally committed to the Seminoles last weekend.

"That got my attention," Elam said. "I would love to play with Jeff because he's a great linebacker who makes great plays. Me playing with Jeff could be good."

Both Elam and Luc expressed concerned over the departure of Gators defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, who was hired as the University of Louisville's head coach.

Matt Elam has always been able to run hard and fast, but only upon slowing down did he become a truly fabulous high school football player, and a more promising person.

Blessed with golden DNA, the same mix of genes that has landed brother Abram Elam with the NFL's Browns, ESPNU's No. 13-ranked senior in the nation has otherwise been doubly cursed.

If your 12-year-old sister had been murdered when you were 8 and your oldest brother murdered last year in the very same park of your neighborhood, chances are you'd be a flight risk, too.

But the running back-safety is not running now unless he's playing. Dwyer High (Palm Beach Gardens) won its first Florida state title Saturday in the Class 4A championship game against Niceville, 42-14, in large measure because Matt Elam has carried the Panthers.

Lane Kiffin has been around on behalf of Tennessee. Georgia and West Virginia remain under consideration. There have even been suggestions that Elam is considering Ohio State so that he might be closer to Abram.

If Elam is going to change his mind, he'll have to do it soon.

He and Abram visited Florida last weekend (the Browns played Pittsburgh on a Thursday), and Stanley and Dwyer head coach Jack Daniels were Gators teammates in the late 1980s. Elam's Dwyer teammates Gerald Christian (TE) and Robert Clark (WR-CB) also have committed to Florida.

So Matt Elam is standing in the Gators' doorway, but with options, as his mother and a younger sister may move wherever he goes.
