PORT ST. LUCIE ?Treasure Coast junior linebacker Jeff Luc has emerged onto the national stage.

Luc is listed as the top linebacker in the country and the No. 10 overall prospect for the class of 2010, according to Rivals.com. He was the only area athlete listed on the Rivals 100 list.

"His highlight footage is just ridiculous," Treasure Coast coach Bill Kelley said. "It's physical, athletic. The phone has been ringing off the hook. It hasn't stopped since the film went online."

Listed as a five-star recruit, Luc recorded 112.5 tackles, 9 sacks and 5 forced fumbles last season and was named to the third team Class 5A All-State defense.

Luc said he feels blessed to be ranked so high by Rivals, but isn't putting much stock in it. That said, the whole recruiting process has been a surprise to him.

Luc has received offers from Miami, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Southern California, Arkansas, Georgia, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Michigan ? among others.

"I never thought it would come this fast, as far as getting offers and everything," Luc said. "It's really exciting knowing you are wanted that much."

This one will be getting moved to the '10 forum soon enough.

I know nothing about his recruitment, so why is that? Not leaving the state? I'd like to believe we have a chance if we land Joyner and start snagging some FL guys. I believe Luc and Hicks are 1a and 1b in the country at LB, with the slight nod to Hicks with his upside.

JC Shurburtt: News and notes from the Miami Nike combine - ESPN

HIALEAH, Fla. -- It's no secret that college programs swarm South Florida and its rich talent base. The current crop of prospects is no different. Here's a look at some of the recruiting news, notes and scuttlebutt coming out of Saturday's Miami Nike combine.

One of the most heavily recruited prospects at the event did not test, but came with his coaches to support his teammates, even skipping an invite to Florida State's junior day to do so. Linebacker Jeff Luc (Port Saint Lucie, Fla./Treasure Coast) spoke about his current recruiting status and appears to be wide open to all comers.

"I just wanted to come out here and support my teammates and show that I'm behind them and that I really care about them," Luc said, adding that he probably would have participated in the combine were it not for the fact that he is gearing up to participate in the Nike Football Training Camp this coming Sunday at the University of Miami.

"I did not think [the recruiting process] would come this fast, but it's been a blessing," he said. "I give the credit to my coaching staff and my teammates. I don't think it would be possible without them."

Luc, who had more than 20 tackles for loss last season, has scholarship offers from more than 30 programs including Florida, Southern California, Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame, Ohio State and Georgia, plus most of the rest of the Southeastern and Atlantic Coast Conferences.

"I am open to everybody," he said. "Everybody has a chance. I am willing to visit any school that wants me. All of the schools are recruiting me pretty hard."

Luc did give some general thoughts about some of the in-state programs. "With Florida State, I love the coaching staff," he said. "I did not get to go up there to see the facilities or meet the athletes. Maybe I will have the chance to do that sooner or later. I may go up there for their spring game. I like the coaching staff with the Hurricanes. I like all the coaching staffs at Florida, Miami and Florida State."

He added that he would love to visit Southern California and plans to head to Los Angeles at some point to check out the Trojans. Luc talked about the factors that he is going to weigh when he makes his final decision.

"I am going to be looking at everything, but mostly academics," Luc said. "Then, I am going to be looking at the playing time and if I will be able to fit in the defensive scheme and also who all I will be competing with and I will see how well their defense is and if I fit in with the coaches."

JC Shurburtt: 2010 Under Armour All-America Game loaded at linebacker - ESPN

Jeff Luc, 6-1, 230, Port Saint Lucie, Fla./Treasure Coast

Billy Tucker on Luc: Luc is one of the more imposing middle linebackers we have seen in the past few recruiting classes. It's very difficult to find many physical flaws in his game and he is more than ready to make the jump to the next level right now. He displays awesome short-area power and strength at the point of attack and is just an explosive downhill filler. Luc is textbook tackler who drives through ball carriers and really dishes out the punishment.

Recruiting Buzz: Plays things close to the vest but is ultimately expected to head to one of Florida's Big Three -- Miami (Fla.), Florida State or Florida -- when all is said and done.

Treasure Coast's Luc an Internet sensation

No one had any idea what would happen when Jeff Luc's highlight video made it to the Internet.

As late as January, few had ever heard of Luc, a rising senior linebacker at Treasure Coast High. As a matter of fact, some college recruiters hadn't even heard of the school that opened in 2006.

But all that changed 48 hours after Luc's older brother, Alex, posted a highlight video of his younger brother on You Tube. Before uploading it, Alex gave a copy to the coaches at Treasure Coast. They popped in the DVD in the coaches' office, turned down the lights and saw a condensed version of a player they had been watching mature for three seasons. And yet, it still made an impression.

"It's that old story of when you're around something for so long, you take it for granted," Treasure Coast coach Bill Kelley said. "When we kicked back and watched the tape, it was like a collective, 'Wow!' "

That night, the video went up - and immediately went viral within the college coaching community. Watch the first three seconds of highlights and you can understand why. There's a snap, a quarterback rolling to his right and then a white jersey pops through the offensive line, almost faster than you can follow it at regular speed.

The streak of white hits the quarterback, lifts him off his feet, and carries them both backward through the air, then sliding on the turf. Picture a Freightliner colliding with a Prius. The highlights keep coming for six minutes: He pile-drives a receiver. He chases down a running back behind the line. He intercepts a pass. He even catches a long bomb in double coverage.

As a junior, Luc had 119 tackles in 10 games for the Titans, including 19 tackles for loss and nine sacks.

I say Luc, McVey, and Hicks all end up at Ohio State and the NCAA passes some kind of bylaw that prevents a LB class from ever being that good in the future.

Nice to see the kid make it for camp! Wide open is a good as sign as any.
