'10 FL CB Cody Riggs (Florida Verbal)

Riggs is not a ND lock..he says he's open to about 4 schools right now. OSU would have been in top 3 but after this weekend i see no chance. To be real, O-state showed him no love at all. i thought it was ridiculus. Even his dad made the trip and it still seemed like O-state staff didnt care at all. they treated him like a no name prospect until i got on coach /haynes about it after the spring game. He pulled Rigg's dad aside and told him it was a miss communication and that they didnt know Cody was coming. Well obviously that's bull b/c you guys even knew and secondly even if you didnt you still should be excited about a good prospect visiting with his dad. they were basically ignored...they wont consider OSU :tongue2:

Ugh, that's terrible. How does something like that happen, it's isn't like we had a ton of visitors in for this game.

Wow, thats terrible to hear. Cody seems to me to be a pure CB worth plenty of attention. With what we seem to be trying to do down at STA, thats droppin' the ball hard.

I know, thats what me and my guy Grett was telling them after the spring game at the picnic. And trust me they felt a bad vibe. the ball was difinitely dropped

That's terrible how the visit went for the Cody and his Dad. That sounds so unTressel and tOSU like. The ball was definitely dropped, for whatever reason.

Hard to "make up ground" when an offer hasn't even been made. The staff may have not went about things the best way, but it's hard to say they droppd the ball or messed up when an offer hadn't even been issued (and it was clear they were looking at other guys harder).

There are only a couple CB spots this to be had this year; with Joyner at the top and offers out to a few other guys. This type of thing happens at schools all over the country guys....

I could see if the Ohio State staff initially showed some interest in Cody, that this would be hard for someone to swallow. But if Cody did not have an offer, maybe the staff just didn't want to lead Cody on. Plus, it was a busy weekend. I'm sure the staff had plenty on their plate. It's tough to read things like this, and I feel for Cody, but Coach Tressel and his staff are some of the classiest in the business. I'm sure there were no bad intentions meant by the Ohio State staff at all. I wish Cody all the best in college.

So your telling me that one of the best CB in the country was not deserving of any attention?

Genron, in defense of our staff, may I point out that we knew that Cody was coming primarily because of you and also because a lot of us read recruiting news from here and from other sites. Its not likely that the staff do as well. If the staff was focused on some other prospects, it might be possible that they might have paid less attention to details wrt Cody Riggs. It doesn't make what they are doing right, but just gives some background as to why they might have made that mistake. As fervent buckeyes, we deeply sympathize with the unfortunate situation.

As far as others screaming murder at the staff at this point, this isn't the first time something like this has happened. I think the O'Dowd blunder was much worse. Unfortunately things like this do happen in recruiting, even at Ohio State. We can take respite from the fact that it happens a LOT less here than at most other places. Go Bucks. :oh:

The same thing I was thinking. You have a real good player on your campus you show him some attention. Even if your not recruting him you still dont ignore him. You never know what could happen.

Do you know if Cody or his father ever called the coaches to let them know that they were going to be in town for the game?

This is a tough situation, b/c us homers don't like to think the program dropped the ball, but Cody and his folks shouldn't need to call frankly...if they came up with LJ and Genron that's good enough...hey I still think it probably was just some miscommunication somewhere but it defeinelty could/should have been handled better. Just my 2 cents...

This was posted in Kris O'Dowd's thread when his brother posted that they didn't appreciate how the staff handled Kris' recruitment. I think it applies to this situation as well. We appreciate genron's insight but it's not like the coaches can come on here and defend themselves either.

Just keep in mind that there are always two sides to the story but only one can be given in this instance. I am not doubting Mr. O'Dowd at all and I am very thankful for both his public and private communication with the BP community. However, I also believe he is setting a perfect example of how this situation should be handled. So with that precedent set, please don't disparage a staff or individual coach who cannot give their side of the story.

Not directed at anyone at all, but moreso to prevent the usual issues in a situation like this.

Best of luck Kris and thanks for everything London.
