Riley hasn't heard from Big 10 school
When September 1 rolled around and players in the senior class could receive phone calls from college coaches, Dietrich Riley (La Canada, Calif./St. Francis) was hoping to hear from Big 10 power Ohio State. The waiting game continues for the talented safety.
Riley has developed a strong friendship with Palmdale (Calif.) defensive back Joshua Shaw and the two talk regularly about playing together in college. Shaw has Ohio State leading at the moment and Riley is hoping for a Buckeye offer.
"We would love to play together but I haven't heard anything from Ohio State," Riley said. "Josh said they were interested so I'm a little surprised they haven't called. I was kind of waiting on them before I set my official visits but I'm going to go ahead and start setting them now.
"I have three schools for sure I'm going to set trips to. Notre Dame, Florida State and Tennessee are locked in for sure. I'm still trying to decide what other two schools to visit but I know I want to take all five and I'll be doing unofficial visits to USC and UCLA later in the year as well."

That's true of hundreds of kids out there. I don't believe we should dangle something out there just to land Shaw. If Riley is someone the staff wants, then they'll offer, otherwise don't string the kid along.ScarletVader;1535320; said:I agree, but we never know how the year will play out. PREP FOOTBALL: St. Francis senior all-purpose star hopes to see postseason success, something that's eluded his teams past three seasons.
A impact player on offense, defense and special teams, Dietrich Riley must be accounted for at all times.
While the senior from St. Francis High in LaCanada Flintridge has more than proved himself as a running back, receiver, linebacker, safety, kick returner, special-teams gunner, etc., Riley has enough good players around him this season to make a serious playoff run, and that would be something new for the four-year starter.
Riley has earned All-Mission League recognition since his freshman season, but St. Francis, once among the Southland's most feared programs, has gone just 16-16in his first three seasons and has never won a playoff game - aletdown considering the Golden Knights had advanced to the section semifinals three times over the previous six years.
At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds with 4.5 speed and a 37-inch vertical jump, Riley is among California's premier college prospects as a safety, with offers from USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Michigan, among others. As a junior, he rushed for more than 1,000 yards and totaled 13receptions, eight touchdowns, 39 tackles and an interception but could not do it alone.
