I understand what you are saying, but I don't think the name Montana has as much of a wow factor with today's kids as it does with us 30 somethings.

The wow factor is still there. :)

I'm giddy at the idea of a Montana leading OSU. I want to use a dancing banana, but those are used for other things. Maybe one day.. seems like there are a lot of positives for us in this recruitment.

I'm 20 and I definetly have the "wow" factor with the name Montana. Joe was an all time great and I think HS kids now with any background in football would know the name, and know how good Joe was. I was a HUGE Montana fan when I was little, so if we could land Nick, I would definetly be excited. Not to mention, there is just something about California QB's and success at the next level, minus Clausen  Also, great find 22, you're a machine, that connection should help us out.

My only issue with making Montana priority #1 is that if we land him, it gives out rival up north their QB of the future with Gardner...
Not necessarily...

If Forcier looks decent this year, he could very well head elsewhere. He will have a lot of options besides UM.

Bucks Set To Welcome In Montana

The Buckeyes have not spent much time recruiting the state of California the last couple years, but they will take whatever time they need to if they can land Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian quarterback Nick Montana.
The 6-foot-3 and 190-pound Montana, who is the son of former Notre Dame and NFL great Joe Montana, is one of the country's top quarterback prospects.
During his junior season Montana threw for 2,500 yards and 33 touchdowns in leading Oaks Christian to a 14-0 record and a state championship. Montana was intercepted just seven times.
"He's been offered by Maryland, Ohio State, South Carolina, LSU, Stanford and Arizona," Christian Oaks coach Bill Redell said. "And it looks like Texas and Alabama might be next."
Montana's older brother Nate is a reserve quarterback at Notre Dame. Even if the Irish offer, Redell said he felt there would be some hesitancy on the part of Nick to go to Notre Dame since his brother is already a quarterback there.
Nick Montana will visit Ohio State for the first time this weekend.

and...if we whiff on Montana, we could lose both.

That has been cautious thinking on my part since this whole news broke. With Nick looking like a national recruit and being from CA., let's hope he sticks to his original thinking of an early decision. The thought of putting our eggs in Montana's basket and riding this to a signing day decision could be risky, especially when many feel we would be, are, Gardiners' leader. Hopefully the staff will be able to gauge the Montana camp's true interest in the next few months, before we have put ourselves in an inferior position with some other top end prospects.

I thought we had mentioned this before but let's just get it out of the way...for those of you worried about the OSU staff making a national QB from California their prime target, understand this: there is more than just "entry-level" mutual interest here. JT and Joe have been in contact for quite some time and 22 also alerted everyone to the connection between Joe and Gene Smith. OSU is a REAL player here...
