Game Thread #1 Texas at #2/#3 tOSU, Sat. Aug. 30th, 12pm ET, FOX

He can start with "Don't be a fucking blocking sled" and finish with, "Don't let your 310 pound ass be casually tossed aside by a LB"

He'll probably want to coach up their scheme somewhat too. Admittedly, I'm not a college level coach and don't understand the intricacies of pass protection. But I'm pretty sure the DE should be accounted for in a three man rush.

Another real good 11W article on the Texas game:

Interesting that they decided to rotate at RG but nothing everywhere else on the OL. You can also see the offensive strategy by the fact that Klare was third in reps at TE. We were just trying to choke the game out once we landed 2 punches.

Great write-up. How were the new Gameday atmosphere changes?
Regarding the 2 changes in traditions:

I don’t like ringing the ‘Victory Bell’ before the game, but when they showed Archie on the live video feed to the scoreboard nobody was going to voice much disapproval. So at least having him do it was a smart move.

They constantly reminded fans with an energetic guy live on the scoreboard video to be loud whenever Texas had the ball, and that worked well. The student section in the end zone was as good as I’ve ever seen it,

The band playing Hang On Sloopy at the end of the third quarter has been a tradition for about 60 years. I missed that, and I can’t even remember what was going on for those couple of minutes. The band did play the song less than 2 minutes of game time later, right after Tate’s outstanding TD catch. And it was a blast to hear that right after the TD.

How old am I? I was in the stadium fall of 1965 when they played Snoopy for the first time.

Dang. You're old. How many letters were in the alphabet back then?
Did you have to avoid any stampeding herds of brontosaurs?
What was it like before color was invented?
Sorry - I'm done, now.

Victory bell: Meh - I'm not going to get huffy about that. Not crazy about it, but I won't let it ruin my mood.
The energetic dude: I'm not crazy about it, but that's the way the world is moving.
I was a bit disappointed about Hang on Sloopy, too. Did they do the inflatable ball thing at that point? That's always fun to watch, but put Sloopy back where she belongs.

Speaking of inflatable ball things - the Brutus race was the best ever. For those of you who didn't know, they do this thing where Brutus races a fan 100 yards. They used to have a super fast dude in the Brutus outfit. He'd give the fan a 20 yard head start and still fly by the fan. That dude must be gone, because now they have a normal speed dude and no head start. Anyway, they had two fans on Saturday: a Buckeye and a Texas fan. The Texas fan was winning, but them someone in one of those inflatable ball things ran out and knocked him on his ass.

Well I'm looking at it from the standpoint it ends up killing the protagonists. At that point everything was favoring the imperials...
Well, yeah. The Sith won. Until they lost.

(If you haven't watched Andor, please do. JJ Abrams is a hack. Rian Johnson is even worse because he actively hates Star Wars fans. Tony Gilroy gave those two chumps a masterclass. Andor can stand on its own *without* being a Star Wars show.)

Great weekend for my son and me. Flew into Cbus on Friday around noon. Lunch at Warios, beers at varsity club, pizza and beers at Adriaticos. Caught the Skull Session. After the game, Schmidt’s sausage house. Sunday drove to Cincinnati to catch a Red’s game. Then took 32, the Appalachian Highway, to Athens to see family. Beers at Jackie O’s. A 10,000 calorie weekend no doubt. Walked all over campus, bought gear, beers and more beers. Visited my dad’s grave in Union Cemetery and tipped our caps at Chic Harley’s grave on the way out. Thanks Buckeyes for giving us a win in which to bask! Loudest I can remember the stadium. Next up for me, UCLA in November!
