OSU freshmen taking leadership roles

By Mark Gokavi

Wednesday, February 21, 2007
COLUMBUS ? It's fitting the Ohio State men's basketball team planned to watch Michigan State's upset of Wisconsin in the freshmen room Tuesday.
Mike Conley Jr., Greg Oden, Daequan Cook and David Lighty are taking a bigger role in the leadership of the team during players-only meetings.

"There's a lot of people's opinions on what's going on and how to attack certain teams," Conley said Tuesday. "If people have problems personally and they feel like they need to express them to the team, we all talk about it together. Coach told us ... it doesn't matter what grade you are. Whoever wants to step up needs to step up."

Buckeyes first battle each other for No. 1

Wednesday, February 21, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- It wasn't a bad way to spend their free time, though with the way practice has been going, it sounds like the Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball players need their rest more than ever.
Tuesday night, Ohio State guard Jamar Butler said the team planned to gather in the dorm rooms of freshmen Greg Oden, Mike Conley Jr., Daequan Cook and David Lighty to watch the Wisconsin-Michigan State game. Their reward was an end to the debate over whether the Buckeyes or Badgers deserve to be the No. 1 team country after Michigan State's 64-55 upset victory.
Tonight, the Buckeyes will make their case for No. 1 by hosting Penn State before Wisconsin visits on Sunday. It sounds as though the Buckeyes are getting some of their toughest tests in practice.

MEN?S BASKETBALL
Buckeyes tempted to look ahead
Before showdown between Nos. 1 and 2, there?s Penn State

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Growing up in Hoopeston, Ill., halfway between Purdue and the University of Illinois, Thad Matta said he relished being in the heart of Big Ten country.
Now he is coach of Ohio State, the No. 1 team in the coaches poll and No. 2 in the media poll, with a home game Sunday against Wisconsin, No. 1 in the media poll and No. 2 in the coaches. Matta is at the fulcrum of Big Ten country, and he didn?t try to hide his glee yesterday.
"I think it speaks volumes about the Big Ten," he said. "You look at last year, it was the No. 1-ranked conference in the country, and now you?ve got the 1 and 2 teams in the country. Quite honestly, this is what I signed up for. I like this."

The good news is that the Toledo blade (rag) says the game will be on at 8pm on channel 43. The bad news is that channel 43 is fox news and I know they aren't carrying the game

Yeah it's on an FSN channel on DirecTV (629 I think), but I don't get that channel at the moment.

But I found a Red Wings game on Comcast Sports Net online, so I'll watch that while I'm watching this thread.
