#1 Ohio State 68, Penn State 60 (Final)

A Concerned Fan

While a lot of you guys are calling this a "look ahead" game, you would have thought that this team would have learned from a week ago that there are no such games in the Big 10. I don't think you shove this off on freshmanitis these guys have played over 25 games and should know by now that they are going to get everyone's best effort.

I am also concerned why Oden does not get more touches. Those guys that are taking the 25' jump shots with over 20 seconds left on the clock are not playing very good basketball. That shot will be available any time even with under 10 seconds left on the clock. They should move the ball around a little more to see if they can get the ball to GO before jacking up a long-range missile. They can even get that shot if Oden does get some touches but gets double teamed. They need to make future opponents concerned about Oden's offense and their ability to also work the ball inside/out against a zone defense.

I thought that this team would have learned to play against a zone defense better after last Wednesday and that is why I cannot understand why Minnesota's brilliant HC did not play zone this past Sunday. I think that any team we play in the future, except Wisconsin, will start off in a zone and if we are hitting the 3s will go man-to-man.

Earlier in the thread, someone mentioned where was Hunter in the second half. I really don't know who you would substituted for him. I certainly would not have taken out Cook or Lewis for him during the last 20 minutes.

I guess I am very concerned about this team. I don't know if it's because of the personalities or just the fact that they are not playing up to what I expected them to show. I don't know. Maybe they will have their coming-out party against Wisconsin and Michigan and hopefully the NCAA tournament.

the oden comments

he wasnt getting set at all last night. his postioning was awful. his foot worked looked bad. sure he had guys all over him, but he didnt even try on id say half the trips down the floor...

I agree with all of your points. He needs to try and get better position while the ball is being moved from side to side against a zone defense. The fact that he had guys all over him will probably never end in his college career.

You could have taken out either one of those guys, IMO. Neither was hitting the outside shot, and it looks to me that Lewis has no confidence in his mid-range jumper. If I were playing defense against him, and he's not hitting from outside. Then I just stand back and take the charge. Lewis has to have a double digit lead on this team in number of charges committed. Both Cook and Lewis were not moving without the ball, and I think that putting Hunter inside would at least have given us some spacing on the perimeter and given us another player in the post. If for nothing else to grab an offensive rebound.

I just think that Hunter needs to see the floor at least once in a half. He is too good to be on the bench...

We put Twig in when Oden went out with his lil injury he had...

That suprised me especially when we had went small and were trying to push the ball...

Either way I am not fretting over this game at all, Matta doesnt seem to worry about the shots that these guys are taking, and look at what Butler did last nite when he got hot. If Lewis, Harris, BUtler, Cook get hot they can take over a game, and push a small lead into a big lead or a small deficit into a lead.

I think the thing that they have to learn is when they miss 3 or so, maybe it isnt their night and unless they are wide open they might want to look elsewhere, or push the inside game or maybe a drive to the hoop...

what is theosu record in the schott over the last 3 years??

I do not understand why Matta almost always substitutes Matt for Oden rather than putting in Hunter. I don't know maybe he thinks MT it is a more physical player than Hunter.

Lewis has no confidence in his mid-range jumper. If I were playing defense against him, and he's not hitting from outside.

I totally agree with what you are saying about Lewis. To me he has been a big disappointment this year compared to what he brought last year.

I disagree with taking both Cook and Lewis out last night at the same time. I think we needed one of them on the floor. I do not believe Hunter would have helped us any in the second half. JMO
