COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? There's something about last-place Penn State that brings out the worst in No. 2 Ohio State.
For the second time in eight days, the Buckeyes had all they could handle against the Big Ten's worst team before finally pulling out a 68-60 victory Wednesday night.
And for the first time, coach Thad Matta seemed to show the frustration of having a team that, while continuing to win, hasn't put a team away for weeks.

COLUMBUS -- Ohio State keeps winning. Barely.

Jamar Butler scored 18 points and Greg Oden had 17 points and 14 rebounds to help the No. 2 Buckeyes beat Penn State for the second time in eight days, 68-60 last night.

Daequan Cook added 12 points and Ron Lewis 11 for the Buckeyes (25-3, 13-1), who hold a one-game edge with two games left in the Big Ten race.

MIKE MUNDEN DISPATCH Greg Oden blocks a shot by Penn State?s Mike Walker. Oden had three blocked shots.

The last 20 minutes at Penn State last week gave the Nittany Lions the belief they could play with the No. 2-ranked team in college basketball.
The first 32 minutes last night in Value City Arena did nothing to dispel that.
In the end, though, belief was all they were left with.
Ohio State left with a 68-60 victory ? but with as many questions again as the Buckeyes had leaving State College, Pa., a week ago.

I feel no differently about Wisconsin after this game. Everyone knows that some teams get into another team's heads.

Penn State got into ours and their own, not enough to beat us but enough to believe that they might and to play out of their skins.

Ohio State let Penn State befuddle them with the zone. There is more than the open three shot and when Cook and Lewis started getting some penetration, there was a four or five minute burst where we looked pretty good.

I'm chalking this one up to looking ahead to Wisconsin. Matta's exasperation says something to that effect and it just looked that way to me, especially in our defense. Not getting down the floor smartly hurts every time you do it.

I like us by 6 over Wisconsin. 78-72.

Unfortunately, The seniors on this team are our worst players. If Matta would let the "youngsters" play and bench the two gunners, i believe we would see a much more consistent play. It has become quite apparent to me that the seniors want to "get theirs" at the expense of the rest of the team. Harris and Lewis starting continues to baffle me.

Nah, I think the sky has fallen. Yep, they were in our heads and people are in need of traction, it was so bad. Yep, well I don't know about you guys but I had my butter knife out and was about to off myself with just five minutes to play. Just knowing that Penn State had The Rail was about all our guys could take and I suppose, what with that and the snow last week, well...

I guess what it boils down to is that I don't know if JimOtis is right. I mean, if you don't penetrate, you don't score, right? Without penetration, you can't win, right?

So, when we are playing Penn State, I just think its easier to keep The Rail out of your head by stiffening up your resolve and getting some penetration of your own. But, I just could be old school (sigh)....
