1-loss and in the NC game or no loss Rose Bowl?

What would you rather have happen to the Buckeyes this season?

  • 12-0 but end up ranked #3 in the BCS, but we win the Big 10 outright and go to the Rose Bowl.

In 1996, tOSU was 4th before the bowls, after the 'slip' game. If Florida and Florida State had both played CCG's and lost them, #2 (behind ASU) in the BCS (had it existed) would have been a real argument between tOSU and FSU.

And here's 1984, before the bowls were played. Another possibilty for the scenario described above.

To say that it is impossible for the BCS to send a team that losses it's last game of the season to the NC is just wrong. It may not be likely. But...with the system we have in place right now...it's possible.

But...as long as Jim Tressel is here...we don't have to worry about it anyway, because we win the last game of the season every year.

in the first page i kept reading nothing beats an undefeated season...
another national championship trophy under tressel would beat it.. i can understand the "honor" in an undefeated season but i rather be the beat the only other undefeated team in the country and be the 2006-07 national champions.

one more thing.. did the 02 national championship spoil everyone? People rather be undefeated than win a national title? How many years was it between our last national titles? i rather not wait another 30 years to be crowned the best team in the land.

Another 30 years? It was 34...and you were only 15 when we won the national championship...so do you even remember the 90s? Let alone the 60s? Not that I was alive in the 60s, but I have no clue what going 34 years is like. I do know that winning all your games is all you can do.

I'm not spoiled by the national championship. But what other teams in other conferences that we don't play do in their seasons is all that stands between us and the NC. If we go 12-0...we had a better season than going 11-1...but it all depends on what other teams do, which we don't even play or have a connection to, to decide if we go to the NC or not.

It's stupid to have to root for random teams to lose to get into a national championship game. You should play into a national championship game, not back in. You back into playoffs in sports...but you don't back into THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. College football is the only place that happens. The Steelers needed luck to get in the playoffs...but they had to WORK to get to the Super Bowl...that's how it should be in college football...and until it is that way, then i'm going to feel that winning all your regular season games is all you can hope for.

I'd like to agree, but if we start out at #5 or so, and the #1 and #2 teams also run the table, we'll be shit outta luck...

Unless they change the BCS formula again, there's no way an undefeated tOSU would be third in both polls and the computer. Probably almost have to be 1st in the computer polls, unless an SEC team is also undefeated.
We would be in the NC game.
Another reason why there should be no "official" rankings until after the 5th week. many in the media keep teams ranked high simply to justify their preseason selection, even if they don't play like it. If they didn't officially begin to rank them until after the second conference game, they could be more honest about it.

Now you're simply talking like a homer...pure specualtion and wishful thinking.

I don't know. An undefeated SEC team and undefeated ND could easily hog 1 and 2.

As for starting the polls later, the Harris poll was delayed until week 8 and it pretty closely mirrored the other major human polls.

yea i was 15...? i rather a national championship when im 19 then when im 45... do u see what im saying? i wasnt trying to say i have to personally wait 30 more years as i did previously...and yea i remeber from 94 and on..i remeber sitting at spring games wacthing people like eddie, glenn, op, winfield, boston.. was i following recruiting classes then, no. but because your 23. does the fact that im 18 mean i havnt researched the older teams..? does the fact that im 18 mean that the ramp entrance cant give me goosebumps or after we played rugby on the bands field i couldnt spend 20 minutes wandering around every all american buckeye tree...at my office on my desk is a copy of the ohio state football encyclopedia, because i couldnt watch people like archie, kern, graddishar, woody, chic, hopalong, paul brown... but im a 18 year old who dosent know any of the heritage or history of ohio state football. And inconclusion a 12-0 season is better than a national title.

is 12-0 a great season... yes! IMO, and XC this is a message board full of opinions, i rather win a national title with one loss.

No, I'm figuring in SOS and the computer polls into the equation. with OSU's SOS, and going undefeated in the Big10, they would be ranked no worse than 2nd. And that's probably only if either a Notre Lame team or perrennial power SEC team was also undefeated and also started higher in the polls. (per methomps)
I would definitely like our odds (and would be willing to back up this scenario with a friendly wager)
