1-loss and in the NC game or no loss Rose Bowl?

What would you rather have happen to the Buckeyes this season?

"Awesome" or not, there's no way a 12-0 trip to a non-championship bowl is a big as being in the championship game with a loss...no way. The "best" we could hope for in the 12-0 Rose Bowl scenario is a blow-out win and a very close championship game so that we could hopefully jump both teams playing in the title game (ala USC in 2003)...and look at all the shit we give USC when they claim that AP title. Fuck that. I want to be in the title game so that if we win, we are national champs, period. I want to see JT raise up another one of those crystal footballs more than any other bowl trophy.
That's fine...that's your opinion...and I respect it...but to say:

there's no way a 12-0 trip to a non-championship bowl is a big as being in the championship game with a loss...no way.

For a lot of people...they do feel that way. Maybe there is NO WAY for you to feel that way...but some fans do, me being one of them.

What if the loss was to Michigan? Would that change your mind a little bit? (I'm sure you'll say a loss that late in the season would mean we couldn't make it, but we were #4 this year with TWO losses...so it's tough to say that it could NEVER happen)

Until we get a playoff system...I think that winning all of our games is really the only thing that matters. I could care less what some BCS formula with it's BRAIN DEAD Harris Poll voters and Coach's who don't even do their own ballots thinks, or some stupid computers. If you win all your games, you proved all you could on the field. If you lose a game...then you didn't prove all you could on the field, and the only reason you are in the NC game is because another team f'd up along the way as well.

Obviously what we did in 2002 was the perfect scenerio. Perfect season and a national championship. I guess the only thing that could have made it better was if the NC game would have been the Rose Bowl. I'm one of those fans that is really itching to play in a Rose Bowl...It's almost been a decade now...we need to get back to Pasadena.

yea my sentiments exactly. i love being in the rose bowl but it doesnt hold a candle to a NC.

the object is to win all the games..................which implies a national championship usually. people may enjoy a rose bowl victory and being undefeated but you are still the odd team out and some other team got the crystal ball in their hands and got labeled the national champions. if the one loss is to michigan then well that sucks but we lost in a rivalry game and then go on to play in a national championship game. it never seemed to tarnish the glory of LSU when they won their national championship and while i think USC was the better team that year LSU still has that crystal ball, ring, personal pride, and line in the record books. if we went to the rose we win, get scrutinized and feel like crap getting left out and hearing "what if osu played...." and just have your name on a rose bowl trophy. as much as i love the rose its just apples to oranges.

NC - all day, all night.

Can you imagine how pissed we would be if we went undefeated and didn't get the opportunity to play in the NC game. Any undefeated jubiliation would be smashed by the anger of being screwed over by the BCS.

I'm even going to open up that idiotic argument again. We will never, ever, ever be in the NC game with a loss to Michigan...can't happen, won't happen. By the way, our "TWO losses" came in the first five games of the year, and being #4 after the bowl games is a big difference from being #2 going into them.

Would you rather of been USC of 3 years ago disputed champs with one loss or Auburn from 2 years ago not viewed at all as champions with 0 loses. Auburn for me.
1) OU should be fined for ruining both 03 and 04. They were completely unworthy in 03 after KState, and yet those failures did not keep the pollsters from overrating them again.

2) The 03 year was bizarre, and not related to this hypothetical. USC was #1 in the nation, but 3rd in the BCS. I doubt we will see that again with the separate category for SOS removed (it still exists for computer poll calculations). It could happen, but I do not think you will see a #1 (poll) team (from a tough conference) miss the BCS again.

3) Many think Auburn would have given them a good game in 04, but that doesn't earn then national validation. They played a tough schedule and came up with nothing. OU's was not any more impressive when yous tack up all of the teams.

4) Recruits want to play for NC's, not league titles. Those recruits become players, and therefore that is also their goal.

5) If we played an easier schedule like 02, went undefeated, but so did USC and an SEC team, I would be pretty disappointed if we missed the Fiesta, howver we could blame ourselves. In a year where we face the defending champs in their stadium, and play in a resurgent Big Ten, it would be criminal to leave us out.

Why not? Remember Nebraska??? They lost their last game of the season in 2001...BY A BLOWOUT! And somehow...they ended up in the national championship. IT CAN HAPPEN.

What if that loss was to Michigan? Chances are this will never happen anyhow, so it's a moot point. We play a tough schedule next season, and there are no clear cut dominant teams out there next year right now.

Give me 12-0 and a chance to really fuck the BCS system once and for all. I know how OSU fans can work the media.

We ain't Nebraska...and after that clusterfuck and the one with Oklahoma getting into the title game after getting raped by Kansas State, the BCS won't let it happen.

Tressel's #1 goal is to win a national championship, not to get into the second-best bowl game.
