'09 UT OL John Martinez (USC Signee)

From what I heard he didn't impress at camp very well...

I heard he was impressive, but so were several of the in state guys, especially Longo. The Bucks need another Tackle. Hall is a Tackle candidate but many see him eventually sliding to Guard. I am not sure about Martinez' size. He projects to be an interior lineman probably a Center. I think it comes down to numbers and if he waits into January, he could get an offer.

Agreed but my understanding is that his senior film is pretty impressive...

Which makes me wonder...usually if the staff sees what they want at camp, they offer. If you walk away from camp without an offer soon, usually it is a bad sign. However, Nathan Williams didn't get an offer after camp, granted it was his junior year then. With this years production from our OL, I'm really wanting five this year to go with the Block O from last year. If we have to reach I say only 4 but Martinez is about as far from a reach as you can get.

Is it fair to say that if you didn't know that John was from Utah, one may think he was from Ohio? You don't normally get these quotes and this amount of love from a WAAYYY-out-of-state kid, currently without an offer.

Maybe that's the hold-up. He plays in Utah, not exactly a hotbed for football talent, and if he didn't impress at the camp the coaches may be wondering if he's just a product of weak competition. Not to mention he's supposedly only 6'2" or so.

Utah high school football may surprise you. Local kids make up most of the BYU and Utah rosters. This may sound silly but, there is a large population of folks from the south Pacific that are in general, physically huge. This year's Herbstreet challenge had a team from Utah that beat Massillion.

Yeah, his other offers aren't from very good schools especially the USC offer:)

Ditto. For once I would love for the O'Lline to be one of the strengths of the team...

I'm not overly optimistic about Martinez getting a late offer being that he's an out of state kid that the coaches saw in camp without offering...but if the offer does come I'll be thrilled for John.

Watt committed to ND...not Charlie Weis...

That won't stop the snowballs.
