GIRARD - When the Girard Indians hold a dedication ceremony, they do it record-breaking fashion.

Playing the very first game on their new artificial turf, quarterback Kyle Stadelmyer rushed for 189 yards and four touchdowns, picked off a Quaker pass and added another touchdown on a punt return as the Girard Indians easily outdistanced Salem, 47-12, Friday in the season opener for both schools at Arrowhead Stadium.

It also marked the first game for both teams as members of the All-America Conference.

Stadelmyer, a senior, was starting his first varsity game at quarterback, replacing injured Adam Charles who hurt his knee earlier in a scrimmage and is out for the season.

STRUTHERS: Girard Indians beat Struthers Wildcats 26-13 - Ohio High School Football - Blitz on Vindy.com - Youngstown, Warren, Mahoning Valley

STRUTHERS - On a night that was supposed to belong to Struthers with its new stadium facilities upgrade, Girard rode the back of Kyle Stadelmyer to a 29-13 victory.

While everything went right for Girard (2-0), the hometown Wildcats were still within 7-0 until the Indians scored on their opening drive of the second half.

Stadelmyer, who had 87 yards on 20 attempts while executing both quarterback and running back duties in the first half, scored three times, including an 84-yard kickoff return just seconds after Struthers pulled within 14-6 early in the fourth quarter.
