Austin Boucher knows the score. He understands he is not the No. 1 quarterback prospect on Ohio State's list for the 2009 recruiting class. He's roughly No. 3 at the moment, behind blue-chippers Tajh Boyd of Hampton, Va., and Kevin Newsome of Chesapeake, Va., by way of Hargrave Military Academy.
The important thing to Boucher (pronounced boo-SHAY) is that he is on the list, period. About two weeks ago, he wasn't. That was before he led Kettering Alter to a state championship win over Steubenville while OSU coach Jim Tressel watched from the press box.
Tressel can't comment on prospects, but his actions did a lot of talking. He dispatched OSU assistant coach/recruiting coordinator John Peterson to Kettering the next week to meet with Boucher.
"He said they were hoping to sign one quarterback for sure with this class, maybe two," Boucher said. "And he said to me, 'Regardless, Austin, coach Tressel thinks you can play at this level.'
"He said they have one or two guys ahead of me, and if they don't commit, they said they were definitely going to come my way because they think I'm a guy who can help their team."

Worth noting that one Buckeye's gain might be another (ex) Buckeye's loss should Boucher end up in the '09 class.

Presently Boucher is a verbal to Toledo, where previous Ohio State Defensive Backs Coach (now Oklahoma State Defensive Coordinator) Tim Beckman is the incoming Head Coach.

Not sure I agree with that 100%...

EDIT: Not the "athletic quarterback" thing, but rather the "decision has been made to go ... spread type look all the time" thing. There are relatively few absolutes with JT, imo...

Having seen Boucher in person against Coldwater, I have to say I'd be surprised if anything came of this. Boucher is a good athlete for sure but I'm not positive he is OSU caliber. He has a good arm though and his throwing ability has yet to be displayed, due to a run oriented Alter team. My honest opinion is that Oltorick might be a better option at QB than offering Boucher, even if Bauserman leaves.

Anyone that saw Boucher against Coldwater saw very wet and sloppy field conditions, and saw Boucher command an 8 minute second half drive to beat the #1 team in the state in Div IV, including a 4th down throw in Coldwater territory to keep that drive alive. Austin is a leader, a winner, intelligent, a special kid with all of the intangibles that will leave a mark on the next program he joins. Have you ever met a kid you just knew was going to be special? He has a gun for a left arm, and is fearless, although he only threw 3 interceptions all season while gaining over 1500 yards in the air. Sorry to sound like the Boucher "Chamber of Commerce", but he is prob'ly more pro-type QB than "athlete" to match Boyd, but I'll bet lunch that in 3 years you all will know Boucher's name, whether he plays at OSU or not. I don't think it is the best thing for Austin's career to sit behind Terrell and maybe another five star QB, but this program will be better if he decides to come here. A winner, plain and simple...

thats the word on two other boards....for a while now.

If we don't get Boyd, Boucher gets an offer to provide depth.

Collin Boucher of Kettering Alter High School (Ohio) picked up offers from Miami (Ohio) and Toledo in the past week and will take an official visit to Miami next weekend. Many feel the linebacker could verbal to Miami as soon as the middle of this week.


Twin brother Austin Boucher has seen his name mentioned with several programs including Ohio State. The quarterback is a Toledo verbal commitment and has stated he?s interested in staying with the Rockets. But with his brother Collin looking to be headed to Miami it wouldn?t surprise anyone if the RedHawks pull off a twin signing with the pair. Both have talked in the past about their dream to play college football on the same team and with Toledo and Miami both having offered the pair that should be able to happen.

Considering the season that the young Miami QBs had I have to think he has a chance, but then again, along with Raudabaugh and Belton they also have Dysert who was decently regarded last recruiting season. But from what I saw of Boucher, he seems to have an ability to keep a play open, something I haven't seen in a Miami QB since a certain number 7.
