'09 OH QB Austin Boucher (Miami-OH Signee)

Follow your heart young man, and you can't go wrong.

I can't speak for everyone on here but I'll respect you either way!

I totally agree. He's got two outstanding options (i.e. athletic scholarship at Ohio State or Miami) here. It's not like he's doomed if he makes the wrong decision. Both are great opportunities for him. Regardless of what he decides he can't go wrong.

I see no reason why Boucher should lose face with Miami by changing his mind. It should have been obvious to Miami that he was waiting on an OSU offer. And wasn't he already committed elsewhere when Miami went after him?

I think it all comes down to if he thinks he can make the NFL, or even WANTS to play in the NFL. He'd have a much better chance at Miami (OH) to do so. At Ohio State, he'd be a quality depth, program-type kid. Do I think he can play? Definitely, that's why our staff offered him, they don't hand out offers to just anybody.

Toledo, I believe. Switched to Miami to play with his brother--that was my understanding. It will be interesting to see whether he decides he wants to run the risk of being a perennial backup at tOSU with the possibility of working hard and eventually getting the starting gig, or, in the alternative, wants to go to a traditionally strong mid-major to play with his brother with the possibility that he never gets the polishing and national exposure he would get at tOSU. That's a tough decision, IMO.

Austin Boucher Rankings, Grade, News, Stats - College Football Recruiting 2009 - ESPN

Evaluation

This kid won't see much attention because he is not very tall, but he is ultra-competitive and very productive. Boucher is a just a bit taller than Todd Reesing at Kansas, but every bit the athlete and winner. He is left-handed and the trait that stands out about him is his delivery. He has a quick, live release which can be rare for lefties as many can have a 3/4 delivery and wind-up. He gets rid of the ball quickly and on time. He is very well groomed, fundamentally sound and poised within the pocket. We would not call him a dual-threat, but he can make things happen with his legs and buy second chances. He has excellent feet, a balanced set up and considering his lack of height does a nice job working through progressions before leaving the pocket and making something happen. He is very accurate and his release gives the impression that his arm is stronger than it actually is. He dinks and dunks very well and is precise in the short and intermediate passing game. Can throw on the move to each side and is always trying to make things happen. Has a tough demeanor and shows very good leadership about him--exudes confidence. However, Boucher's size will create some limitations at the collegiate level from a field vision standpoint. Needs to be in the shotgun and the spread would be a good fit. Arm strength is above average, but he is not going to be a guy that can consistently drive the ball downfield or into tight coverage especially outside of the numbers. If this prospect was three inches taller he would have a lot more attention from BCS schools. Boucher is a kid you hope can overcome the odds.
Notes

Decommitted from Toledo. 2008: Threw for 1,621 yards and 21 touchdowns. Rushed for 783 yards and 13 more scores. 2007: Threw for 1,458 yards and 15 touchdowns. Twin Collin also committed to Miami-OH...

Was it TE? For some reason I thought it was S... I'm probably just mistaken though... that was before I was really in to recruiting much at all.

It was TE, I actually talked to Big Ben about it on a visit there junior year when his number was being retired. Anyways, I hope this can come to fruition because we need a QB. Austin is a great athlete at minimum and can give us some depth. I can understand with any decision he makes. Boyd really screwed us over, seeing as how this could cost us 2 QB's. Beyond Ohrian Johnson, Ross Oltorick was a good HS QB (walk-on) and Grant Schwartz was an outstanding QB in HS. I know this is grasping at straws...

Scouting Ohio - Austin Boucher Archbishop Alter

Junior film. From what I can tell, he knows how to take a hit and deliver the ball. His arm strength isn't perfect, but offseason conditioning can help with that. Solid athleticism. The statement that he may be a lefty Krenzel seems pretty accurate. Smart guy who seems to have a solid understanding of what it takes to play QB.

I'm reminded of Joe Germaine though he's a better athlete like Krenzel. Not flashy but very solid.

pretty unreal.

Tajh and co. may have changed this kids future forever. He publicly commits to Miami once he's told Tajh will be a Buck. The coaching staff was obviosuly as straight up with Boucher as possible, and did the right thing by notifying him they'd gotten a verbal from Tajh. Unfortunately the verbal falls through after Boucher gives Miami his verbal, and now Boucher will be left to make the hard call of notifying Miami's coaching staff should he decide to switch his verbal.

Some will say Boucher did it once already, so whats the big deal, but I think the circumstances are much different in this scenario. Obviously, Boucher's comments verify how misled the staff was. I was actually a bit skeptical until I read that. I just can't believe anyone would be that dishonest....I still don't see what the benefit was from Tajh's POV....to crank up interest for a 2 minute press conference??

It could be that Boyd wanted to go to tOSU but at the last minute picked the school his family wanted the most. He could have changed his mind on the last day - we probably won't ever know.
